In which case, one might be tempted to play the sound track of a porno as one passes these by...

Well while 9/10 propaganda machines push the same message about these new yellow vulture cameras with them able to capture mobile use, seat-belts etc. One propaganda machine is calling 'fake news' on the whole thing; reckons it's just a refresh of current cameras. So might just be another case of 'Fake News' by the big news media companies

You cunts will soon see one on every corner. The result will be more income for the pigs and absolutely no positive impact on the road toll.

In similar vein, the kneejerk reaction to the speeding (ie not observing the current speed limit of 50) Audi hitting the bus in Auckland and killing the driver. Brilliant solution to this? Lower the speed limit to 30! FFS if some drivers are not going to obey the law at 50, who thinks that dropping the limit to 30 will have any effect?
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

yep if you can't avoid running into a big fucking bus at 50, 40 or 30 you shouldn't have been given a license to drive in the first place.

Drove down to Rotorua on Sat and on SH 2. 90km limit and a speed camera van set up 3/4 along the passing lane.
Was passing two campervans so tried to keep them in the line of sight...we'll see what comes thru the post.
Whats the point of passing lanes if you can't go faster than the vehicle your passing?
There were about 3 of them on the way back SH1,all VW vans.
Was a rather smashed up car on the gravel roadworks just North of Rotorua, clearly was not doing the 50K's.

Driving back on the Hamilton Expressway, almost no traffic and car cruise control set to 100, van inches his way past, pulls in front and then slows down.
Should really have saved for Friday Night Rant.

Someone told me that TPTB have been placing wrecked cars on the sides of the road this summer as a "deterrent"(?) to passing motorists? WTF?

Have seen some - thought they were real!

    Any truth to this?

No need really, the public do a good job of that.
Working for a Corporate I think we give TPTB far to much credit for out there ideas. From what I can see its a larger version of Gliding On or The Office.

I have suggested in the past that crashed cars are left where they are for free road safety advertising at point of sale but TPTB don't want to use scare tactics apparently. I've noted that there is one at Edendale and one further south at the moment that have been upside down in a paddock for weeks now but that is just because they have not been towed.

Most of us never see a crash happen or get up close to a damaged car. I think there is a lot to be said for leaving cars in situ for a few weeks, makes you think IMO. Purposefully placing them at the side of the road and staging an event is bollocks though because it is false advertising, or crying wolf or whatever term you want to use.

I also suggested nailing the bodies of dead driver/riders to the nearest tree or setting up gibbets at every overbridge but this got turned down as well.

    No imagination.

There are (or were) two maybe three between Oamaru and Timaru over the festive season and two of them looked fresh each time we saw them!

My concern is that they could be an unnecessary cause of an accident for people of good intention stopping to check if there are any people needing medical help or assistance?

Traffic was reasonably heavy but well behaved each time we went out on the roads.

Oh, that's just how they park them up there. Something to do with the poor vision from all the interbreeding.
