    Chrome Plating - Christchurch

Has anyone had any chrome plating work and also alum polishing of engine cases etc done by Christchurch Metal Finishers in Christchurch. If so, I would be keen for some feedback?

Yes, however they didn't used to do the polishing prior to the chroming so you had to arrange that yourself, the place in Maldon street used to be good for the polishing

Escort in Maldon St are still good for polishing. Never used ChCh Metal finishers as they have been predominantly production work biased.
Since Superb closed down it's got hard to get good plating for small size batches in ChCh.
Some are using Tony Pole - but I hear mixed results.

i've used people spread across most of the country but not chch, same, mixed results, it's a cunt of job and is only as good as each staff member who does you stuff.

For the sake of someone looking....I've been pointed at Plating Solutions in ChCh as the successors to Superb.
Haven't used them yet but I've seen some of their work. Not bad at all.

About 2017/18. Well, it was a family business and when both brothers want to retire - and it was getting harder to meet environmental regs - this happens.

Right, so got my stuff back from Wanganui Electroplaters, $550 which was less than quoted and I am very happy with the result. The light mounts front and rear are better than new and the chain guard and muffler guard are both better than expected, not perfect to start with so a big ask...

the last batch i took there was brand new manufacturer, they sued 240 grade sandpaper then polished, i've never punched anyone since i was at primary school, they came close to being the next, they fucked my stuff, funny thing is there is 2000 grade paper available at supercheap too.
I had been going there for some times and it wasn't always good either

not as yet, they didn't inspire me with the answer to simple questions when they started, and most of my stuff is so rare it's not easily replaceable. I am hearing good things from them, and ws in wanganui at a motorcycle dealer who restores bikes and they have switched from wanganui to them. I'm not restoring a bike at the moment cause i'm so pissed off with the shit work people do to be honest. Never asked for a price with, just a quality, and i'm also well aware you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, been restoring bikes for near 40 years

They did one little job for me, which was removing the chrome from a brass fitting. Did a good job, reasonably quick, reasonably priced. would go there again if I ever get started on the old GS1100G resto.
