    New member Royal Enfield 2018

    Hi , guys

My names mike , started riding 10 years ago with a de-regd xj650 special had it for a few months then almost died racing a wrx...helmet visor broke of on one side flipped across helmet and wind caught it (going 160kph) force of the wind turned my head to the side of the road so couldnt see in front of me.... needless to say i swapped the bike for a mk3 cortina after that scare haha

Gave up road bikes untill last year when i bought a royal enfield stealth black model classic 500 2018 from casbolts up in christchurch , always wanted one merely because of the fact they look like an old army bike .. $10,000 brand new first impressions ...cool as but not really enough power for my liking and the vibrations were ridiculous ... done 7,000ks on it now and have to say vibrations are almost none existant they start to go about 1,000 ks into it .

Modified exhaust so its straight piped with welded lolipop baffles inside (dont tell police man) exhaust wrap and just put a new filter on it which is far to big but the performance increase is great , only changed because of the incredibly poor quality of the factory airbox which broke ,original airfilter wasn't sealing properly AND service called for a replacement so....hence the MOD

Overall i love the look of the bike but quality could be alot beter , but the old saying is true , you get what you pay for and to be able to own a brand new bike for $10,000 is pretty cool

In the future i actually plan to do an engine swap with it , plan will be to find a suitable motor replacement probably japanese so then i get the looks of the enfield but the performance and reliability of a japanese engine...same may like it or hate but hey its ok.

That counts as a warm welcome. Hi How bad is the Enfield engine if you want to swap it when it is so new?

It is actually not bad but the gearing is terrible 4th gear taps out at about 110-115kph and sometimes to pass safely it's just not enough don't get me wrong she will chug along at 100kph all day but I would rather sit ahead of traffic than be sandwiched in between , the exhaust and air filter has made an extreme difference to mid to high range so has more pull in 5th now , will see what the future brings if I'm happy with speed then conversion won't go ahead. What's your ride ?
