Actually, gelatin is not the most widely used fining agent in winemaking. Probably egg white or milk products are more common although obviously not vegan. Closest to that would be bentonite which is basically clay.

i forgot about the eggs never knew the dairy not surprised though thy use a lot of WPC for stuff they used to use eggs for ie pumping hams to make em stick together and be shiny etc.
To think they used to feed the Whey to pigs now they are using it direct in the hams.
They was a guy i read something on about some dude making the vegan wine about 10 years ago in Martinborough or suchlike I cant remember what he used. i just rememeber being surprised about the whole vegan thing with wine.

I work in a wine shop. We have quite a few vegan friendly wines and several organic as well. The demand is not that high although we need to carry stock to meet what demand there is.

There are large tracts of the supermarket aisles she wouldn't recognise. Kiwis back then didn't eat yoghurt. Salami was something eaten in Italy. Instant mashed potato? WTF she'd make of a whole aisle of bottled water I have no idea. Then there's all the wines. The "new" veg like rocket, kale and fennel. Tacos? Pizza?
