Bugger! I accidently read this. It seems that jason isn't getting any smarter.

Thirty some indictments, that's a lot of witches.

One thing you can't accuse the inquiry of is being a waste of money. Thanks to Manafort the Mueller inquiry actually made a profit.

Odd that trump never wanted to appear considering how innocent he is.
PS how is he getting on with his Tax records still hasnt realeased them yet aye.
It also turned up trump breaching the campain rules by pauying off Storny D cups and not declaring it or did wee forget that one?
You remember when he paid by personal cheque to shut her up and shut down the story while he was campaigning

The French Maginot line is one of my favourite pointless exercises. The German say, hmm, that looks fairly formidable. Let's just pop around the side. . .

There is a saying, "Generals are always preparing for the last war". Thus the Maginot Line. During the 'phony war' period early in WW2 the Brits were busy preparing for trench warfare. Hitler had other plans.

The problem with walls is they lure the owners onto a false sense of security that no one can get through them.
but under, over, through or arround they are weak, they are like a locked door in that they dont prevent stuff getting stolen, they only keep the honest ones out.

Didn't one of the 'reporters' get a hold of one of the God Emperors Tax returns, and funnily enough, it showed he payed more in Tax than say Barrack Obama or Bernie Sanders....

Perhaps we need a thread 'Stupid things Reporters have said about Trump'

So, here's a thing. Regardless of anyone's personal opinion about 45 (and I do have one) the major point is that Trump supporters and Trump haters don't listen to one another - they don't talk to one another either. And each side is so entrenched in its own camp, with its own compliant media outlets that create and reinforce the echo chamber which deepens their position - so the schism deepens and widens and nothing gets done. American politics is completely fucked - its how you get manifestly self interested and unqualified people elected, and its why America is fucked as well.

The root cause of all of that? Money.

Let me digress by saying that the single most interesting course I did at University back in the day (late 80's early 90's) was POLS205: American Politics. And the first thing the lecturer said to us is that you should not think of "who" rules america, but "what" rules america. And what rules america is money. Who has the money? Large corporations and the people who control them. It takes a lot of money to engage in the political process in America and most of that money is sourced from the corporates. And they demand their quid pro quo.. Any "ordinary" person wearing an Obama badge, or a MAGA hat is basically a spectator. They're like fans at a football match. Tribal as fuck, but with zero ability to influence the game on the pitch. Taking that analogy a step further, the people who win the game usually aren't the players... its the coaches and managers and owners - who bring money to bear. And money rules everything.

Which is why campaign finance reform is the single most necessary thing to restore America towards being a functional democracy*. But it will never happen because the big interest groups* will never allow it.

And its not just the Republicans - the Democrats too (look up the Chicago machine).

*and you may infer (correctly) that my opinion is that it isn't a functional democracy at present.

Interesting points, I don't entirely disagree with you about the Money issue either. The line between 'Bribe' and 'Campaign donation' has always seemed rather hazy.

However, there are other points to consider:

Career Politicians - People who have never 'lived' in the real world, who are themselves existing in an Echo-Chamber of sorts, often larger inner-cities, affluent areas, with views divergent from the populace - a classic example atm is the House of Commons being pro-Remain, whereas the UK as a whole being Pro-Leave.

The influence of Left and far-left ideology over University, Academia, the Teaching profession, Social Media etc. Things such as the theory of intersectionality, Identity politics, Political Correctness etc. These are things that have infiltrated our culture, things that often promulgated by a select few, opposed by the masses, but forced upon us anyway.

The degradation of Journalism - It seems less about delivering the news, more about provoking a reaction. And if you have to edit, omit or outright lie to get a reaction, that seems to be par for the course. and hastens the decline

Trump is more a reaction, than a symptom. There are things I don't like about Trump, however - my main issue is that there is a definitive kabal of groups who are so fundamentally opposed to him, that they can't portray him fairly - the eponymous 'fake news' - and to be honest, seeing them throw their toys out of the proverbial because they can't get their own way is immensely satisfying. Almost like some form of Karma for acting like petulant children in the first place.

As an example - the Democrats in the US have still not done the required soul searching to understand why they lost. It's that self-delusion of righteousness that irritates people who would otherwise support the Democrats, coupled with Utterances that sound like re-hashed Socialist/Communist talking points (and some of us either remember or have read how well that turned out) and you have the recipe that you describe - 2 tribal camps praying for war.

The solution is not Money, or at least, not all Money - but I think a leaf should be taken from Tony Blair's landslide victory in the UK under New Labour - the exorcism of the Socialist Left that had existed in the Labour Party. It's something virtually no left wing party has done since, in manner cases - they've done the opposite.
