Commando! comics. I've loved WW2 stuff ever since. Plus I enjoy history and I think that WW2 is pretty much the defining point for humanity... until we achieve warp drive and move out into the galaxy.

So, here's a thing. Regardless of anyone's personal opinion about 45 (and I do have one) the major point is that Trump supporters and Trump haters don't listen to one another - they don't talk to one another either. And each side is so entrenched in its own camp, with its own compliant media outlets that create and reinforce the echo chamber which deepens their position - so the schism deepens and widens and nothing gets done. American politics is completely fucked - its how you get manifestly self interested and unqualified people elected, and its why America is fucked as well.

The root cause of all of that? Money.

Let me digress by saying that the single most interesting course I did at University back in the day (late 80's early 90's) was POLS205: American Politics. And the first thing the lecturer said to us is that you should not think of "who" rules america, but "what" rules america. And what rules america is money. Who has the money? Large corporations and the people who control them. It takes a lot of money to engage in the political process in America and most of that money is sourced from the corporates. And they demand their quid pro quo.. Any "ordinary" person wearing an Obama badge, or a MAGA hat is basically a spectator. They're like fans at a football match. Tribal as fuck, but with zero ability to influence the game on the pitch. Taking that analogy a step further, the people who win the game usually aren't the players... its the coaches and managers and owners - who bring money to bear. And money rules everything.

Which is why campaign finance reform is the single most necessary thing to restore America towards being a functional democracy*. But it will never happen because the big interest groups* will never allow it.

And its not just the Republicans - the Democrats too (look up the Chicago machine).

*and you may infer (correctly) that my opinion is that it isn't a functional democracy at present.

I agree with a lot of it but the problem of money in politics is not the real issue the issue is some actually think its okay.

What trump has been allowed to get away with in regards to his blatant interference and utter crap he talks is heinous. It’s a damming indictment on all that is wrong with the world and the cult of celebrity.

What trump has been allowed to get away with in regards to his blatant interference and utter crap he talks is heinous. It’s a damming indictment on all that is wrong with the world and the cult of celebrity.

It is the problem as far as watering down democracy. One vote equals less than the money that can be earned as you can just use that money to capture more votes

Because people with Intellect compare him to the other politicians and realize that he Lies as much as they do.

The difference is, his Lies are more honest than the lies spewed by his opponents.

There's a lot more wrong with the world than Donald Trump. Hes just the clown prince. My, and really HDCs point - is that America spouts Democracy as its defining principle but is so far removed from actual democracy that it's a travesty.
If they had a better voter turn out that might slowly change.

I can't see how America could ever change with the three major layers of corruption and the limited options. But jeez they still should be able to find better monkey than the current shaved orangutan.
