Boyles Kawasaki and a boring Honda story

So yesterday my trusty 94 VFR had a mechanical failure for the second time in 24 years and 190,000k, first being the rectifier some 20 years ago. Essentially it blew the rear left spark plug out. Loud pop, loss of power, but enough to get into a safe spot off the road. Called my longtime dealer Boyles and John offered to come out right away - been going them for the usual tires chains, tyre kicking,reminiscing etc for 14 years or more. Mark fixed it with excruciatingly little drama. Early symptoms for those interested was a ticking noise from under the tank, slight gribblyness and lack of buttery smooth carbs at low speed, more crunchy peanut butter like. My concerns were the entire expensive upper head with those gear driven cams etc was stuffed and confess to checking 4th gen VFR's on the market in case mine was totally stuffed until the good news came thru. Some two weeks previous I fitted a wicked Delkevic stubby, a strange action for a pensioner, but the little bugger brings a big grin, especially in tunnels. It also pops on deceleration and I thought this might have set off the problem but no, Delkevics are safe. Typical Boyles conversation. Me "do you think I should bring it in for a carb check after 24 years and almost 200,000k." Reply "try it out and if its OK don't fix if it's not broke." Fuck I do like that Delkevic on that gear driven cams V4 and it now runs as it should.- orgasmic.

To blow a plug out had someone in earlier times done the plug up too hard and stripped the thread a bit. It is rare for it to happen otherwise.

By the way, nice bike, love mine.

Ta. That might well have been me. Last plug change was over 10k ago maybe 15 (tend to forget over the years with these VFR's), and it may have been compounded over the years.
