    Hi everyone,

I found a lot of useful threads on here when I was researching motorcycling so I thought I'd better join and ask a few of my own questions.

I'm looking at getting my first bike shortly and my top pick rn are; Honda VTR250, Kawasaki Balius 250, and a Yamaha MT-03 if I want something new. Really anything from this century and with similar styling to the Honda and Kawasaki, so if you have suggestions I'd be happy to hear them.
I have some questions about a Balius bit I'll be making a sperate post in Bikes.

    Cheers,
    Hiptro

Vtr250 is pretty idiot proof, think they were higher specd from about 2004 so aim for that.
Mt03 gets a lot of love too, just depends how much your wallet hates you at the mo really.
    Get all yer gear first.

Just on getting gear, could I expect much of a discount if I got a bike and gear from the same place?

Yes and no, depends on your overall spend.

Consider a starter or new biker set from the likes of Motomail. Surprising what you can get for a sensible amount of $$

Boots gloves and helmet I bought new.
    Boots... well, feet.
Gloves aren’t really worth the $10 saving to buy used.
Helmet buying new is a no brainer.
Got me pants n jacket off crapbook for 40 bucks. Completely functional and actually fit me which is a miracle (65kg sopping wet and almost 6’).
But yeah shop around and see what they’ll do for ya.

Check tardme and crapbook marketplace for protective clothing. It is surprising what you can find in new/near new condition.

I also vote to buy gloves and helmet new. I was lucky enough to find some near-new boots in my size but if that didn't occur I'd have gone new on them also.
