Whats the best thing to do in this situation? I can expect retaliation if I do anything,
either sort it yourself with aforementioned weapons, or report it to the police, so at least if he does it again, or to someone else their might a chance they do something about it,

Absolutely report it to the cops, and then if something happens you will be in a better position to carry out the next step.

That's legal as long as it's in the same room as you, under your direct supervision so to speak.

    Ignore him?

but also be ready to smack him in the head next time

31 SECTION 48 of the Crimes Act 1961 provides:

Everyone is justified in using, in the defence of himself or another, such force as, in the circumstances as he believes them to be, it is reasonable to use.

If he does successfully follow through, be sure to post in the thread to keep us in the loop.

    There's a loop?

What's the road condition like? Sealed, no loose gravel? Plenty of curves and tight corners???

move, I've watched a few bad neighbour programs, or just avoid /ignore him, telling the police will only help after he's beaten your head in, if he's ganged up it'll make him really nasty....

    Lodge a report with police.
You don't need to press charges if you don't want to but it's something that can go on file.

I fuckin hate bullies! And I don't intimidate easily. Take no shit from them. Keep a bat or similar implement near your front door and at the merest hint of aggression from him use it with extreme prejudice!
My experience with people like him is that they are weak and need their friends to back them up. They normally back down when confronted.
Of course, if you choose to confront him be prepared to back yourself!

The Police have intel files in which they keep all sorts of information about people they are interested in. Not stuff that could be used in court necessarily, but information which helps paint a picture. Sounds like they'd be at least a bit interested in this dude.

Na they are too busy trying to find those guns that were nicked from their Palmy cop shop.
