    Chain tight spots.. Sprocket?

    while you're out there you may as well check the run-out in the lawn mower blade too

    In many cases you can see the chain deformed where it doesn't flex properly. Drive that around the front sprocket and chain goes tight. You can easily find these points on an old chain.

    That is the main cause.

    Not saying that you can't buy shitty sprockets but if you stick to JT or equivalent it won't happen.

    Agree. Chain has link sections that have lost lube or otherwise become rigid rather than flexible. Chain off and feeling the link sections as marked prior to removal proves that. Sprocket the cause? Not so likely but a possible lesser factor.

    Tight spots are harder to spot on the super spendy X ring chains. Given the huge amount of fucken drag they come with.

    Hmm, ok found a dyno test on an R3

    That's 520 oring vs fresh 415 race chain. That's lots of weight removed and a smaller chain as well as no o-rings. 0.62hp out of 40. You'd be pretty happy with that on your race bike, probably a fairly extreme example though.

    I could keep searching for difference between oring and xring but they have dual area but with less pressure on them so I'd think it would be similar.
