Improved tyre wear after Ride Forever course

The main thing I got out of the Ride Forever course last year was improving my road positioning while cornering. Not only did that help me to corner better but I've noticed about a 20% improvement in tyre life. I expect that's because I'm carrying more corner speed and not on the brakes and throttle as hard.

    An unexpected bonus...

    "Carrying more corner speed"

I didn't know that was necessarily a good thing.

True, but you're using lines that allow you to see further through the corner.

I am probably faster through most corners since doing the course though.

Does it wear the sides as well as the middle now?

It does in my case. I did a gold course a few years ago and one of the things we focused on was corners. I had an issue with uphill hairpin right handers winding me into the centre line.
Any hoo, much fun was had and many corners were apexed, repeatedly. Probably the most bizarre training day I've ever had. Our instructor was a Police traffic officer and he kept saying "gas! gas! gas!" through the intercom as I cornered.

After years of trying unsuccessfully, in ignorance, I've been sans chicken strips ever since.

Amazing what you learn when you invest in trying to be safer on the road.

I feel that I ride slower now but seem to cover the ground much more efficiently.

No, the whole tread is less worn now. Even the sides.

Prob from finishing your braking earlier and not braking through corner. Also gentle throttle all the way through. Read it in a book

I don't use the rear brake much so doubt that's the reason. But I am using the front less, and the tyre looks almost new.

Another positive is the rear tyre has kept its profile and still has that nice, progressive feel as you lean the bike. It's done over 6000 km now and should last at least another 2000.

    Mine too

I've been riding bikes since I was a kid, trials and a bit of classic racing too. The Ride forever courses have had a massive influence on how I ride and most importantly how much enjoyment I have when I ride.
My bike seems to have stopped eating chains and tyres and yes I'm getting places far more quickly too. I'm doing my second gold tomorrow at Manfield Park in Fielding, mostly for the $200 rebate of licence fees but also because I know I'll have a great day and learn heaps!
Pity the weather report is so awful!
Its never too late to have a happy childhood!
