    KTM 990 Adventure

Anybody got or had a 990 Adventure? Thoughts on them?

Not me but a mate did 160000km (100000 miles in the old money) on a 950 Adventure. He only retired it to buy a 990 Adventure and he has done 50000k on that. That includes shipping it to South America and doing a hot lap then Yrp and also the States I think. No major engine problems and no breakdowns except one as he was riding out his driveway.

He is a YUGE fan of them.

I like them but too tall for me.

Height is my concern as well.

The 950 is brilliant, but I found early 990's were let down by the jerky FI.
I think over the years, I rode every model 950/990.
The 06 950 that I owned, the purple Dakar Anniversary 990 and the last model 990 are my favourites.

i rode a 990 smt?? once it had fantastic brakes and suspension but i couldnt handle the jerky engine ;It kinda felt like you had to be on the throttle or brakes all the time, not my style.I was disapointed because at the time was interested in the adventure. At 190 cm the height wasnt a problem.Would like to try a late model one, even now

Yeah, the SMT was the worst of the lot.
The magazine wouldn't print my comment "..it turned me into an Indian Grocer (gave me a wobbly head)."

Yup. The 2010 Dakar would be my preference.
Or an unmolested 950. There is summat about two carbs an two staintunes (which is what I had for 10 years).
I looked for another 950, but finally caved and bought a 790r...

The late ones are definitely better.

Jerky throttle can be sorted out with mapping or just disable the o2 sensors - if you want to cruise at a steady speed - but that's not really why you ride a 990 is it?

Throttle on, or off, get used to it!

Be tall, be big, otherwise you'll snap a leg the first time you dab.

Sports bike engine with dirt bike suspension. Get the suspenders serviced and be amazed.

Actually, why am I saying this, I am in the market for a 2nd 990 so actually they are too big too heavy make too much power and cost too much to run (fuel and tyres cost me more than my 1 yr old kid does) replacement parts are only able to be manufactured when the wind blows just right in the Austrian alps and take 12 years for sea-delivery.
