    Old shitters and octane booster.

Hey all.. I want to do the east Cape loop this weekend.. To Napier then up the coast to Whakatane on a 94 mk 1 speed triple. The problem is theres only 91 octane fuel available through those parts. Last time I put 91 in this bike it melted the plugs. Preignition I suspect. Does the likes of STP octane booster actually do its job and slow the burn so I can run 91 ?
    Thanks in advance

When you top up you'll only need 1/2 a tank, so a lot of high octane fuel mixed should get you by. Te Araroa

Google maps show a GAS station in Tolaga Bay with 91 and 95. I'm not sure how up to date that is.

The Gaspy app shows 95 at Te Puia Springs and Waihau Bay. I'd suggest phoning to check.

Great app - it can save you money, but is invaluable when you need to find the nearest petrol pump!

2 years ago I could find nothing around there.. the guy at the servo said it was about efficiencys transporting different fuels didnt make it viable..
I'll take a bottle of octane this time and let you know the outcome..
    Thanks chaps

I've been through there a couple of times but can't recall many gas stations. Last time I filled at Ruatoria. As somebody else suggested, phone to check.

    Update

So I rode from Hamilton, taupo, napier, gisborne, east Cape, opotiki, rotorua then home to Hamilton. About 1000km.
I probably would have got round without using 91 if I could be buggered planning it. End result was a 2 x 50/50 91/96 mixes. I added octane boost and had no problems at all. Being a 91/96 mix I probably would have got away with no octane additive but I had it with me anyway.
Great ride.. bugger all traffic being winter..
    I'll do it again.
