Any speedo units off the GS1000 range will fit. Not just the GS1000s model. There is still a few bit's available at some wreckers.

Hi FJ Rider, cheers, yes the same speedo unit is used on several models from '78-'80 ish. GS750, 850, etc. Any ideas about which wreckers to try?

    Thanks, kiwimacchi

The speedo ratio is 2240 rpm=60mph so any jap bike mechanism that fits in the shell with the original face and needle should work as a last resort.

They're specialists in vintage & classic instrument restoration and at one stage they did/ may still hold the calibration & service tender for the police vehicles in Christchurch & surrounding areas

It was identical (as it should be) to the one on my GS1000s. It had the km/hr as well as Mph on the gauge.

I did go through a few speedo cables too.

I must have been going too fast ...
