A quick internet search suggests it was in use in England before and around the time that America was colonized. Just America kept using it where as it's popularity died off somewhat in England. So I don't think you can blame the American's for it. Guess you were wrong.

Indeed. He probably could have gotten a better understanding had he researched its history in the first place.

Unfortunately these sudo-intererlectual types rarely admit they have gotten anything incorrect. It's gotten really bad.

DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.

Do you actually own/ride a bike or just think KB is an extension of Facebook?

Geeze, are you always such a prickly old cunt?

I got my bike license over 40 years ago, and have used a motorcycle as my sole mode of transport for a large part of my adult life.

Currently, I have to make do with my dream bike as my working life leaves me no time for riding.

I have a wealth of knowledge and experience relating to Motorcycles. A friend pointed me to this forum, so here I am.

If I want to post a thread in a Rant and Rave section of this forum I fucking well will.

    WoW! I'm glad I hit a nerve.

Generally most folk give a wee introduction instead of behaving like a snowflake in their mummys basement,

With that being said welcome to KB. Pays not to be too sencitive around here or your feelings wil get hurt very easily.

Gotten is a perfectly valid and legitimate word. The past participle of the verb "to get". It was used by Chaucer, and Shakespeare. And numerous times in the King James Bible. There is no more authorative imprimatur of good English usage than the KJB.

Those who use 'got' as the past participle are simply incorrect. In this case Cousin Jonathan is correct, the self appointed pedants are wrong.
