Bought some diesel at the Huntly Z today. It was 35c per litre cheaper than at our local Z in Auckland.
With today's 10c Pumped discount it was $1.189 per litre. It's been a while since I've seen diesel cheaper than that.

The price of the fuels sold at fuel outlets (such as gas stations) are allowed to sell at the retail price they choose.
Some prefer to use the fuels as bait for the products they make the money on. Lollies and groceries/food are the high mark-up items.
Probably about the same profit in a bag of Minties as an average tank of diesel.

...the pump fuel prices vary widely I have only just started to note...the price variance between Challenge outlets around here are surprising...17 cents on one recent observation
Always wondered why an R1 was so slow.
There is a very useful app called Gaspy. (Gas Spy) It shows you prices at nearby petrol stations, but is also great for finding the closest place to buy petrol when the low fuel light comes on in the middle of nowhere.
You can also search by place names when planning a trip.
Highly recommended!

Do you still have to pay RUC's in NZ for diesel you put in your private vehicle?
Lets go Brandon
Huntly Z is normally dear AF compared to other stations but with the impending opening of the Huntly by-pass expressway they've dropped their prices dramatically. I'm guessing to try and retain some of their local trade. They can afford to take a bath on fuel prices....they've been ripping us off forever.
Yea sure they are able to... BUT when Z sells the fuel to Huntly Z at 35c per litre cheaper than they sell it to the Z in Auckland it's highly unlikely the Auckland Z is going to match the pricing of the Huntly one & will instead sell it at the same 4% "recommended" margin that the Huntly will also be putting on it.
End of day Z all but dictates the pricing tho if you bitch at them about the price gouging they do they'll give the BS corporate line "all retailers are able to choose their own pricing".
It's hard to "choose your own pricing" when you're getting sold fuel at different prices to the other stations

NPD are setting up stations around Otago/Dunedin area. The LARGE unmanned ones are hard to compete with for the small local ones in the same area. Is it "Competition" or "price gouging" ???
If the big names in the game can afford to drop prices ... is the product overpriced ??? It must be if they still show a profit.
And I haven't been to Auckland since 1985. I really don't care what they charge for fuel there.
But also remember ... was there not an extra road tax put on fuels in Auckland (area ??) to subsidise Auckland roads ... quite some time back ... ???
