I read that there have been no fatalities on the 110 km/h expressways. Simon Bridges must have missed that one.

Not mentioned by any current ministers either. They must hate that statistic.

I am surprised that whoever is in charge this week isn't shouting about this news at it proves a number of things. It certainly won't mean you will see more 110km/h limits because there are so many steps and so many engineering features required before it will be considered. Due to those engineering features fatal crashes are going to be rare, no head on crashes, no side on impacts, no lycra for miles. The first fatal will be a broken down car getting hit by a truck doing 90, some mad/pissed pedestrian or an old lady going the wrong way to bingo. It will happen, but it will be much less frequent than on a 'normal' road.

In fact, I think I might start a sweepstake.

I got really excited driving north last weekend as half of the cones are gone... but, wasn't to be, still had to drive through Huntly (the C is silent).

They said this on facies...

Huntly section: We are getting a lot of questions about why the road isn’t open. There are still some minor finishing works so it will be a few weeks yet. We did not ever say when it would open, but we did need to put on some completion events last week. Other points
• The project is still about 10 weeks ahead of schedule. It is not late!
• We don’t give specific dates or times when new roads will open to avoid people queuing up
• Media reports saying the road was open, or about to open, have caused confusion
• The date for completion events were chosen in September to co-ordinate with the availability of key people, provide athletes time to train for the Expressway Classic and manage logistics for significant events, and not necessarily to coincide with completion of final works
• Between setting the dates and the events themselves, there many factors that can affect the completion of works, including weather and compliance requirements
• The team working on the Huntly section has worked incredibly hard to get the road ready and safe for traffic
We have received really positive feedback after our efforts to showcase the project on Friday and Saturday and just ask for a bit of patience from road users.

The damn road should have been opened years ago, fultons and the NZTA are making moonbeams from joe public here in NZ.
Now they're going to rip up the bullshit motorway between Papakura and Drury to 3 lane that too, who the fuck thinks up these ways of fucking our main business hub, they should be shot with a ball of their own shit! Not to mention closing off the newly opened part of the long swamp bit to re, Re-Seal it all again to cover up their last mistakes. Cunt is too nice a word for these morons, do it once, Aucks to Welly, make it 4 fucking lanes both ways, suffer for 2 years and lets be done with it all.

there was a few bridges built.

however I did think they might have finished one section first at least. That just before Huntley heading south.
as you may have seen there seemed to work on but not finish large sections. If they had finished those a lot of expectations about completion, would have been hidden behind Taupiri mountain. Out of sight out of mind.

yes the asphalt around Rangiriri has always been a disgrace.
cheap and nasty repairs, you can see by the number of times it has been repaired.

Long swamp was an interesting section, from the stories I heard.
the name gives it away.

I suppose the 80kph “temporary” will stay even though it is a newly made highway......

You learn a lot through working on a project about why things take the time they take.

NZTA and the various government funding mechanisms are what determine which projects are on or off the radar, not the constructors.
