    New Chassis Build (Honda Clone)

Well thought I’d share this side endeavour I have started. Although I should really finish my other projects first.

    1220mm wheel base
    23 degree steering head
    17 inch wheels (CT110)
Forks and dual rear shocks (CT110)
    GT50 fuel tank
    Custom seat
    50cc four stroke Honda clone.

This should be finished in the not to distant future as this was one evening worth of work.

Welded the rest of the chassis today and added a brace on the steering head. I have also attached the forks and swing arm with the tank resting on the backbone to get an idea of how the bike will look. Although without tyres it still looks a bit odd.

I think mine is a damn sight cheaper than that and hopefully better handling well at least I would hope. The total cost being a couple of hundred dollars.
Tonight the subframe proved to be a pain as the box of bits we have been scrounging from contains miss matching shocks.
Anyways the reason for this is to race It in a 6 hour moped race as the rules on stipulate 50cc. Last years nifty 50 was balls aching even with a port and a pipe.

No offence taken haha, it’s obviously not my strong point typing so people understand my tone. I did copy something for this build though.

It looks a bit like Rumi
Only not a two stroke twin.
Although looking at that frame i would suggest it looks like s a wolf or Stinger or tc120.

A friend of my fathers had a Aemacchi 175 that looked like that which i guess it was modeled on.

i seen this on TM last night one of the best i have seen right down to the covers.

I personally prefer the tubular steel frame vs the pressed steel backbones of the Honda’s for style. Originally I was going to copy the waddon chassis. I got as far as welding It and then started again. The tubular backbone is probably superior to what we are doing now though.

For my next chassis I want to try the waddon style chassis or maybe a chassis like the Sherco moto3 bike. I have an FXR bucket I could build a frame for or and RG150 sitting there which could be a fun trackday bike with a pipe, carb and a new head.

Too many ideas and not enough time haha

So, um do the rules say you cant use an RG50 or somesuch? Large tank, 30k/litre when thrashed and would crucify any foulstroke. 6hrs? Heck I went to the kiwi 6 times from Wellington on mine without a murmer (despite having considerably larger bikes in the stable) . And I hear you can make them go better.

You can use an RG50, there is one that shows up with slicks and all. Although a TS50 won overall last year. The RG did not last the entire 6 hours due to ingesting some road slime. There are three classes. Air cooled, water cooled and four stroke.

I’m hoping the four stroke with the Honda head off of my c50 and a bigger carb with some altered timing will deliver some 5hp (stock says 4.8hp, but I kinda doubt that). I think half of the fun for me comes from building and testing the bike. Also the track is super technical where you might hit 65kmh on a fast scoot so the RG doesn’t get to use its superior HP that often.

I've raced a bunch of 2hrs on buckets, it gets physical on kart tracks, 6 hrs would ge murder on ankles etc. How many riders or do you have to iron man it? Sheriff's road perhaps? Good until it rains.

It’s run in Whenuapai. I think the minimum is two riders, we did it with three to keep it fun. The first stint was a solid hour in the rain on a nifty 50. Most of the entrants are scooters mostly stock.
