I keep loosing count, but I think that's 7 votes for Motomail
Thx Ya'll
Went to Motomail, bought a couple of helmets, some gloves, and maybe some other malarkey.
Here's my 2c:
Sales guy was attentive, patient, knowledgeable, not pushy.
Sales guy was more interested in helping us get the right stuff for us than selling the highest price stuff possible
Really good range of stuff and a clearance area downstairs for bargain hunters!
Couldn't get any better than the standard loyalty program ($5 credit for every $100 spent, not 10%). I only spent $700 so not exactly waving around wads of cash. Discounts are nice, but the good quality, trusted salesperson stuff is priceless!
Definitely my best experience in a bike shop, and I'll be going back for more (after I buy my new-to-me bike today).
Speaking of Auckland stores, Carbon Garage, called in there once, was genuinely interested in a bike they had for sale, my god, I will NEVER go back there again, was treated like an absolute scum bag, hey I might have tattoos and look a bit scruffy but holy hell, every prick in there, including other customers sitting there having there Sunday coffee pretty much treated me like shit, the chick that was working there pretty much told be to stop looking at the bikes and bugger off.
No doubt about Motomail. I have always been impressed with their service. Super friendly, knowledgeable and very very patient and helpful
I've always preferred motor mail especially when you need to get the whole kitout done. Other shops i.e. and Barrys Point Road like cycle treads hole shot etc but only really great if you need to get one or two things because their customer service isn't as good as motomail
I'm a self proclaimed motorcycle newbie and natural introvert so places with pushy staff and egos generally scare me away quickly.
Motomail, when I walked in I was left alone long enough to have a look at several of the products before I was approached by a staff member which was nice as it was my first time in a motorcycle shop. The gent who helped me was super patient with me, I tired on at least 25 pieces of gear as I didn't know what I was really looking for, he guided me towards 3 season gear that fits and I liked the styling. I found the pricing pretty fair as well.
So far I've picked up 2x helmets, 1x jacket, 2x gloves, 1x boots, 1x pants and some other bits and pieces from these guys.
Cyclespot(s) on the northshore, I found the staff great with motorcycles but when it comes to gear they didn't seem too helpful, almost like they are paid on commission.
Each of the stores (4? of them on that road) had their own selection of gear so it's hard to find the right bits and pieces that I wanted in one place. I can't comment on pricing as I didn't hang out too long.
So far, I've found a bike or two I would like to try/buy if they are still there when I get my full licence.
Boyds(in Hamilton), I ordered some boots from them over the lock-down and the arrived 1st week of level 3 which made me super happy, I was in email contact with the staff there about sizing and returns and were happy to exchange or refund if I didn't like them. I love my new BOOTS!
I also dropped into the store on the first weekend of level 2, I was looking to buy a tank bag/bike cover/back protector but didn't buy any because of how busy it was, I can't say the staff were 'helpful' but it was the first weekend open after lock-down it was busy and there were safety process in place so it's unfair to judge them atm. Pricing seemed on par, they do have good specials from time to time.
I would be happy to try at other places in Auckland if I could find them.
Your experience echoes mine. I've found Barry's Point Road shops are great when you're looking to spend a lot of money. For the smaller items they are generally less attentive. I will add that's just my experience and not all the shops are the same.
As for Motomail - Yep they have been very good in my experience. It's always better when a shop specialises in biking gear and they can give you worthwhile advice.
