    Indicator stem repair

While matt black duragal paint was drying on the CB550 I pulled out the pair of Speed triple indicators out. One needed the stem repaired. Searched though my plastics box again and found a suitable blank I could cut a bit of the tubing off the blank. 1cm will do the job. Cut the right amount off and split it down the middle, fit in position and apply black sil\icone sealent then press parts together and let set for a few hours.

The Speed Triple is long gone so now I have a spare set of indicators for the XF650 for the time when the current ones will be smashed at some point.

this is rear and front of my McIntosh, underneath the tank is built to fit between the frame rails and this with those rubber mounts you talk of stop it moving sideways.

My MV has a big tank and is bolted through the front one on each side, but it hasn't got the wide frame like your bike or the McIntosh, and at the rear of the MV it is tied down with a rubber band too.
Can take piccies if that helps.

Not sure if its correct or not but i was told the period correct rubber band was from a Hoover drive or something.
the arround mounts i think were geerally TZ
Yamaha used similar ones on some ATV's even now on 600 Fazers etc

That's sorted that little problem thanks. I will go with the rear being bolted down , which may please the certifier. and I will make a bracket to sit between the frame rubbers to stop the front moving sideways and use the rubber band as per Mcintosh

have you thought about asking your certifier as bolting down at the rear even with rubber cushions may be an issue with vibrations and harmonics leading to a point which may end up with cracking issues?

Just been tidying the ends of the Daytona heated hand grips while the gloss black coats on the CB550 completely dry..... The previous owner just hacked the ends out with a craft knife which looked rather manky. Used one of Connies belt sanders to level things out and stopped just before my OCD kicked in thank goodness..... Finished with flat file and 240 grit sand paper left over pieces.... The end result was excellent.....

Got the old girl back together today.
Put the carbs together with the home made o rings & put them on.
Gave all the bodywork a polish on the bits you can't get to when its together, then put the bodywork on & polished the rest.
Will drop the sump tomorrow & give it a clean out & new filter since it's been sitting for years.
There's always a few interesting bits in the race bike sump most years, this probably won't be much different.
Heres a bit of trivia. This bike got a knocking a big end sometime in the late '90's so I bought a complete tired GSX1100E for a grand & put the 1170 barrels & ported head on the E bottom end, & that's how it is today.
The original cases from this bike sat open & unloved in a shed for years, until they ended up in my black GSX1100 race bike that Jay Lawrence rides.
Those cases have taken the bike to victory all over, including the Barry Sheene Festival Of Speed at Eastern Creek Sydney & the Island Classic at Philip Island, it's something I get an extra buzz from when that bike does well, seeing as those cases also gave me my best motorcycling years in this bike.
I did consider putting the bodywork off this partially built race bike on it to see how it looked, maybe another day.
Roll on cheap rego next year.
