A Pre-emptive pardon presumes that there were criminal actions.

Does a post-conviction pardon do the same?

I thought everybody was innocent until proven guilty.

So - a post conviction pardon - someone has been proven guilty.
A Pre-emptive pardon - someone is supposedly innocent, yet the person in charge feels that they have done things which could result in a successful prosecution....

The latter part is curious, isnt it. What is it that they would be charged with....

So does a convicted pardonee still have a criminal record?

And can a pre-emptive pardonee still be charged, even though taking them to trial would be for 'show' and any successful prosecution be immediately pardoned?

It's a supremely stupid system in my opinion.

My understanding is that in the English Context - a Pardon does not undo or overturn a Conviction.

The idea of Royal Pardons, I think is good - historically the Monarch could, outside the rule of law, decide on a persons fate. In Theory a Judge is bound by the rule of Law and with the exception of a Jury Nullification, someone could be guilty, have to serve a Minimum Sentence (as an example) but there were circumstances that the head of state thought should be recognized.

The Pre-Emptive Pardon though, I understand it is more common in the US context, but to me, it is very dubious.

So the CIA are now in agreement with the Defense Department in that the most likely origin of Covid was the lab leak theory.

Is there anyone out there dumb enough to still think it came from a Wuhan food market?

Saw that. Interesting that they stated they had low confidence in their own findings. (Their position, not mine, I have no idea where it came from, I wasn't even there at the time)

As pointed out - The institute is a 40-minute drive from the Huanan wet market where the first cluster of infections emerged - it does indicate a probability

You said it yourself, ‘most likely’. So how is it ‘dumb’ to acknowledge there could still be another possibility, which the CIA themselves are acknowledging by using that language?

I remember well the Jon Stewart rant on this topic - pointing out that for people to dismiss the Lab Leak theory as completely impossible - was absurd.

One of the few times I commended him for his views.

I, myself, also do not have any hard opinion on where it came from - but I think it is safe to say that a Lab Leak is a plausible theory.

Exactly. Some British commentators I listen to are showing they lack detail in American politics by criticising Biden for his pardons. He wasn't going to pardon his family and others until Trump nominated Kash Patel to head the FBI. Patel, a nut job fantasist, is on record as wanting to prosecute anybody and everybody in the Biden administration. This despite nearly four years of Congressional inquiries into corruption by Biden and his son which drew a complete blank. Notable not least for the fact that Biden Jr did not hold any public office nor was he running for one.

Kentucky senator Rand Paul was outspoken about his desire for Fauci to be prosecuted. I sincerely hope Biden pardoned the cop who shot Ashleigh Babbit.

There is an interesting comment in Caroline Kennedy's letter to senators.
"Bobby preys on the desperation of parents with sick children. Vaccinating his own kids while building a following hypocritically discouraging other parents from vaccinating theirs."

So even he doesn't believe the insane bollocks he spouts.

Sounds like Fauci might not be out of the woods just yet.
