I've got a bit of a soft spot for the Imp and thought that the restoration/upgrade job they did on an old rustbucket was quite interesting, especially the press shop that makes custom panels for just about anything. Converting it to motorcycle fuel injection looked pretty straightforward too. This is the programme: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7t30c3 .
Ha - learned something from that clip - often wondered why those Imps were so badly regarded yet the idea and concept had so much promise - interesting clip that and I remember that program too.

Will have to get back on to it later - kept being dumped off and restarting??? - - Don't exactly know why! - Thanks Geoff.

You're welcome John! They were even competitive in the Monte Carlo Rally back in the mid-60's. A factory-prepared one for sale for 29,000 quid: https://car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=12353 .

Crikey, this lockdown is responsible for some entertaining threads.

When I was little (awwww) my dad had a Hillman Imp, pale blue. He would cram in the family and drive from north of Newcastle to Cornwall for our hols every year. Not sure what he did to it but it went like stink and was very good at Production Car Trials. I was chief bouncer.

Somewhere in the mix he had a Mini Traveller, that went like a cut cat, too. He would race anyone who looked at him twice. Even on the grocery run.

At some point a Magenta turned up. This is he.

Have a mate who has campaigned an Imp in hill climbs for decades. We used to go out on the piss underage, as it was 20 then, and try to find common ground talking engines.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.

I have posted the story of the imps nd coventry climax engines development and its tie in with the Polish genius Leo kuzmicki who made it and Manx nortons and Vanwall F1 engines work.
Leo was "discovered" sweeping the floors at Norton by Doug Hele.

A guy in Murchison used to down them down to make farm hack utes, they had pretty good traction due the engine over the wheels.

The Mk 1 Imps had head gasket problems which was improved with the mk II (straight edge) block. I wonder if a root cause of the gasket problem was that the head was supposed to be retorqued at the cars first service. However that required removal of the cam and cam follower carrier to get at the head bolts, and there was not all that much room between the top of the engine and the rear parcel shelf, so maybe it didn't always get done.

And while looking for something else in the shed today, found an ice-cream container of the Imp Sport valves and valve springs off an engine that I (tried to) modify, Had the Sport exhaust extractors and twin 1 1/4" Strombergs. Hunter resonator for a muffler. Also put the radiator in the spare wheel well in the front. At the time I liked to think I improved it.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

A guy in Cust used to do the same, used to fit Firestone Sherpa retreads on them

That honestly looks like something Mr Kawasaki made. and it sounds amazing. I really like his V-12 Kawasaki KZ2300 also. because making a V-12 with the extra fun of water cooling sounds like a thing to do.

I get the impression he is building bikes to order.

Their is a video of his 1250cc, 5 cylinder, H2 in private hands. It's lovely!

Definitely opens up what I could spend some lotto money on.

Clearly balancing a crank is highly over rated.
Now I want GSX1100 6 cylinder. I have enough engines to do it.
