The Mk 1 Imps had head gasket problems which was improved with the mk II (straight edge) block. I wonder if a root cause of the gasket problem was that the head was supposed to be retorqued at the cars first service. However that required removal of the cam and cam follower carrier to get at the head bolts, and there was not all that much room between the top of the engine and the rear parcel shelf, so maybe it didn't always get done.
And while looking for something else in the shed today, found an ice-cream container of the Imp Sport valves and valve springs off an engine that I (tried to) modify, Had the Sport exhaust extractors and twin 1 1/4" Strombergs. Hunter resonator for a muffler. Also put the radiator in the spare wheel well in the front. At the time I liked to think I improved it.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
