That's why you wear multiple layers of clothing and have decent wind chill protect aka a fairing. Something I learnt very quickly when I was 18 travelling from Hobbsenville to Havelock North and back every second weekend for a year on my '77 CJ250.
Back then winter riding attire was a slightly oversizesd pvc yellow over suite, open face helmet with viser, very thick scarf, water proof wool lined mittens, thick socks in plastic bags and full lenght combat boots....
Laggage system was canvas kit bags or pack and rope...

I'm sure it helps when off the bike. Nobody changes gear if you are a few 100 ks away from the Kiwi. That is if you don't fall in a dunny. Just need a tent/ sleeping bag and maybe some munchies and a flask of your favorite bevie. Maybe some spare socks and plastic bread bags for the return ride.
Still remember when Murry Cross's GT750 Water Bus chain link broke and the chain went snaking past me in the oppersate direction few miles from the Kiwi while I was on my first CX500. I went and retrieved the chain then handed him a suitable joining link out of my tool kit. Up on the centre stand (remember those?) went the GT750. 10 minutes later we were on our way again... We use to carry all sorts of different shit between us like duct tape, lockwire, insulation tape etc...
lately? tyres. seat. lights. engine.
I have to get out more.
