I recall listening to a NZ GP on the radio (pre TV of course) in the late 50's. I guess I might have been 9 or 10. Stirling was late arriving and missed practice so had to start from the back of the grid. He was leading after one lap and went on to win the race. He was my all time favourite back then.

Nice guy, he'll be missed.
I met him at Wigram in the Tasman Series days. Very pleasant - and had time for an enthusiastic kid.
