From what I can gather is some areas have reduced the speed is because of urban expansion.. That is not a bad thing..
It may be interesting to see a breakdown of peoples place of residence compared to location of death. To see if it aucklanders who can't drive outside auckland. Or how long the unfortunates have resided in NZ.

Having said that I have witnessed accidents which have been caused by someone's actions who was totally in the wrong but have caused others to crash trying to avoid them.
Won't be long and we will have speed limited cars...... controlled by RFID or similar. Instant fines for any type of misdemeanor.

The technology to control the vehicle speed or monitor the vehicle speed would be much the same. So they could either remotely force the vehicle to confirm to the limit, or they could just fine the vehicle owner for exceeding the limit. I guess we all know which option would be taken.
