    Speed Limit Changes

This is a bit over the top. I think we need to upgrade the skills not meet the lowest grade of driver. Cars are supposedly manufactured safer.
I think someone has decided all roads will be self funding as even the non speeders will exceed these limits. And some will take big risks to pass the ones doing the limit.
I think this is a little crazy in some areas TBH.

Check out your ride loop there will be cops and cameras everywhere.
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

Yep. The safety brigade at it again. The numbers are real but FFS I wish these guys would have a look at the numbers of Kiwis dropping dead of coronary disease and diabetes... sugar and fat are killing way more of us than cars are.

Theory #1: This is to recoup the cuntcil's financial clusterfuck, by issuing more speeding fines.
Theory #2: This is to allow more time for retarded pedestrians to walk out into traffic, whilst staring at their iCock, before being run over.

So Auckland has about 30% of the population and less than 20% of the road deaths.

We should be congratulated on our safe driving, not be made to travel at walking pace.

Many of those speed limits will just be reflecting the reality of a grid-locked system anyway. Some days you would be pleased to be able to attain those limits.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

I just zoomed out and back in further South on the map to see where these changes might affect me in the Waikato. FFS they can't even get the latest map! S.H.1 doesn't go through Huntly anymore

A chance to get up to these new speeds might be a good thing on Dorklands congested roads. Thank Christ I don't have to go there much anymore.

The thread title had me worried until I realised it was just Auckland. Panic over. As long as it doesn't catch on.

The centre of town here has been 30kph for some years and that's not inappropriate.

What you need are some 10km/h speed limits. They work a treat.

True there are places where a lower limit is appropriate.

You can be assured these new limits will be coming to you, just a matter of time. Followed by outlawing of racing and any types of motorized excitement.

Brought to you by the cotton wool society near you.

We already had this in HB. A number of perfectly good 100k roads reduced to 80k. Some were reverted , prob after councillors realised it was taking too long to get to all there winery bbq dinners etc.

NZTA are currently "consulting" on making SH1 from Puhoi to Warkworth 80 km/h.

Soon it will be 80 the whole way to Whangarei.

Cambridge changed a bunch of streets to 40kph about a year or so ago. This shit is already spreading!
Those 40kph streets are safe enough at 50 when it is quiet and you can't do 40 anyway when they are busy. I'm unsure how the limit being 40 helps.
