That seems eminently sensible in the circumstances. That car poses a serious risk.

Why? surely they would stand two meters away and say the keys are in the car and that would ensure they're safe from anything?

It's just my work being extra cautious until they've fully determined how much contact there actually was. We only went back to work on Monday, so we've pretty much been working from home for the past few months anyway. (We started working from home a week or so before the official lockdown started.) It is fine with me, as it saves the 60km commute.

Jacinda has given responsibility to Assistant chief of defence, Air Commodore Digby Webb, to oversee border facilities, including how travellers depart from them.

    Shoot on sight?
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

I have done that trip from Wellington to Auckland on one tank without refueling. But I did have to stop for coffee, food and toilet/rest breaks. It's dangerous otherwise. Speed increase is directly related to the urge to use toilet increase, in my experience.

Another complete clusterfuck from these retards "leadership" who declare our "borders are closed", that "checks are being done", etc, etc.
The isolation of new arrivals appears entirely voluntary, and there are no checks being done at the borders.

Oh, and the leader of the liarbour party still hasn't had a wage reduction (as she promised).

WRT the paycut - Renumeration Authority seems to be the bottleneck.

WRT the covid checks. The procedures were put in place. Someone neglected to follow the procedures. Do I hear you howling for the resignation of the minister for transport when someone crashes their car (or bike)? Same thing, the rules are in place, but someone far removed from leadership failed to follow those rules.

And I'm sure all the Politicians, in protest of the bottleneck, donated 20% of their paycheck to (insert cause here).

If any did, I would take a guess which side of the house they sit.

It's not about blame, or him personally. It's about our government accepting accountability for their stuff-ups.

It's part of the contract that means we plebs continue to pay their wages and costs, and put up with all manner of krap, while they act on our behalf in our best interests.

The issue, here, is that there is an election looming, so anything that takes the shine off Those In Charge is careeer-limiting for all of them.

Worse still, there is no effective opposition to keep them on their toes, so it's down to us lot and the media.

Cindy Lou days she doesn't want a witchhunt she wants the issue fixed. Winston wants vengeance. Finding someone to blame usually just gets people scrambling for cover and pointing fingers. Do that later if you must, but really just work on fixing the problem. We will, and have just had another import with infection. Let's keep them contained.

Looking forward a few months, the rest of the infected world will be busy getting back to normal, survivors travelling freely (perhaps) while we'll still be bravely defending our national bubble, still repelling boarders, spurning their tourist dollars. So we'd better get it right, otherwise this lockown malarkey has been a massive waste, a costly diversion.

Beyond that, unless there are effective drugs or vaccines, we're stuffed.
