Ironic; yes, when the hazard warning apparatus itself becomes the hazard.

Could have been worse, I've known quite a few riders over the years taken out by Steel traffic signage blown over in the wind.

Glad the OP is generally ok. Being able to get up, walk away and have a chuckle at your predicament is a bonus imho.

Further clarification of what happened received. The mechanic who checked it over found a sliver of road cone embeded in the very front of the front mudguard. It hit with such force that part stayed embedded but I also understand the physics of the accident now. The cone has hit the very front of the front wheel turning it away from the direction of travel. The wheel wanted to turn the bike to the left but the momentum of the bike was forwards so the wheel and the rest of the bike had an argument and I lost and we all fell to the right. We know what happens if we turn our handlebars more than just a smidge at over about 20kph. I was doing about 50kph. No chance.

Got replacement gear today from work and I hope to be back in the saddle on Wednesday after a couple more days of light duties.

Yes. When I was an HSE geek I would always warn people about not creating new hazards when managing existing ones.

Pat yourself on the back for spotting the hazard in another lane and being 'aware' (as opposed to that irritating fashionable 'woke' word). That's great situation awareness right there, even if it did still catch you out what transpired was beyond normal 'what if' scenarios.

Yeah I am also slowly coming around to the realisation that my 60.y.o bones will probably snap rather than bounce. What fun growing older is- not

The lesson here is when the opportunity presents itself you should always stop for a cone. Oh wait this isn't the cannabis thread.

The whole event reminded me of a Star Wars movie. Episode 2, Attack of the Cones.

If you feel you have a genuine case you should take it to the IMCA. We will look into it for you.
