    Ex-Government KTM 530's?

Just wondering which outfit has a fleet of 530EXC's? Three of them for grabs on TradeMe at the moment.

Army, (maybe even SAS) they had klr250's for a long time, and they tested klx400's at the same time as kawasaki were trying to keep the contract, , i think other countries were using the KTM's at the same time and they went that way,

Yep, SAS, think first intended deployment was middle east. Quicker infil/exfil, they were repainted, headlights changed out etc.

Think I saw some of them getting kitted out back in 08/09?

Cool cheers guys. Was wondering if it was military. How does one get a job riding a KTM 530EXC in the army? Seems like a sweet gig.

    Blood, sweat and tears. Literally.

The bike is like a fridge to the chap riding it, there to serve a purpose.

think it was even earlier than that when they first started looking, might have been a few sets of them over the years, 05/06 was when i demo'd a klx400 to them,

The KTM530 is a fun bike. I had two of them.

Quite possible. Just the group I saw were all being painted in desert camo, and they were fresh out of the crate...

The SAS had a few special Pinzgauers with bikes mounted on the back that I think were KTM. It would have been around 2005/6 I saw them at Trentham.

Pinzgauer - Austrian but I think thats as far as the connection to KTM goes. Maybe the same make of air in the tyres and water in the radiators.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

The only connection I'm suggesting is that the NZ Army had a number of what I think were KTM's mounted on Pinzgauer's as pictured. I remember thinking it looked pretty fucking cool at the time.

A next door neighbor was a mechanic and worked in the Linton workshop for a while. What the Army mechs use to do is put a small block of wood between the piston and head on the goods ones when the bikes were about to be put up for auction giving the impression they were sieved. Then went to the auction and got them for song.

Sorry, never noticed the bike on the back, more taken with the thing on the top.
