    Yamaha xs500b restoration

I'm finally re-assembling my 75 Yamaha Xs500B and have hit the wall with the torsion spring for the brake return. It just doesn't seem to fit properly and I can't work out where the 'anchor' arm on the spring sits. Has anyone one had any experience of these? I know they're a bit of a rare bird.

Put the spring wherever you like. There were so few here that no-one will ever know if it's right or not.
Old Bike Australia did a feature on the 500 a while back. Probably worth buying a back issue if you haven't already got it.

I'm going to be realistically cynical....If it hasn't already got a cracked head, using it will guarantee it will crack.
If it's going to be a show bike - trailer queen - fair enough. But once it's cracked, its 'a static exhibit.Oily smoke puffing out beside the spark plug is so messy.....

Repair of a cracked head is feasible but not economically viable. The GSX400 Suzuki cracks exactly the same and I remember Barry Lynch telling me how much it cost to do one of those.
GSX heads can still be found. The XS500 is rocking horse poo.

Don't recall the XS500 - was this a derivative of the TX500, the twin cam, 8 valve one?
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.
