    Impassioned plea for help

    Hey guys,

Some of you may know I am involved in Auckland University's Formula SAE team. The FSAE competition is a worldwide design and build competition for budding engineers to develop a small, single seater race car for use in a theoretical production class. The rules stipulate maximum engine size, minimum wheelbase and a reproduction cost of less than $30,000 Australian among other things. This means we have to be highly innovative in our packaging, componentry and costings.

Last year was our first attempt at the Australian competition, and the first from ANY New Zealand team. We placed 6th, the best rookie finish in the 23 year history of the competition. We took out the FISITA best endeavour award for this effort, and things are looking bright for an equally impressive performance this year. Our aim is to win the competition outright, beating all the Aussie teams who have been doing this for many years.

All our funding comes from local sponsorship, which we work very hard to obtain and honour. We recieve frequent media coverage, and are a perfect vehicle for businesses or individuals wishing to support this country's up and coming young engineers.

Unfortunately, our pushing of boundaries has some significant costs. Without further investment in the team we will struggle to achieve our goals, and would hate to see such a promising vision compromised. In this vein, I make an impassioned plea to all of you to make a contribution to the team, whatever size it is. If every active member donated just five dollars, we would be well on the way to financing our rigorous testing and logistics programme for the competition.

If you feel motivated to donate, please do so. If you know others who would be interested in supporting this exciting team, please let them know about us. No donation will be considered too small.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Johan de Beurs

    bump...

This isn't just a thinly veiled attempt to pay for a new screen for my bike, but a genuine and heartfelt appeal to those of you who are interested in getting behind innovation and motorsport in New Zealand, or seeing our team get another one over the Aussies. With luck, and a heap more funding, we will be off to Formula Student in the UK and the Detroit FSAE competiton to show the world that Kiwis can still build bloody quick, reliable and innovative race cars.

BTW the sig changes every time you view one of my posts... maaaaaarvelous

    Come on guys!!!

What is five or ten bucks to all you working people?? And even $5 from some of you students? Hey Milky, PM me your address for a cheque for (pinkie in mouth - 1 million dollars), err however much, or whichever payment method is best for you (internet banking?).

I may only check my PM's in a week or so, PM VTWIN if it's urgent, he can let me know if I need to change into first gear (out of neutral!).

    Cheers

Family Guy is a great show - even better now that it is back on C4 and TV3

Hey thanks avgas. In all likelyhood we will still be in debt in December, but the main reason for this was to have a little cashflow to pay for things like tyres and fuel to compete in Aussie.

There aren't any plans to sell merchandise yet, but if it looks like a viable commercial proposition, we may well consider it.

I hear that Canterbury looked into starting up a team. It would be a good thing to have some competition AUT investigated it too by the way I can only imagine what their effort would have produced....
