I don't see where the US goes from here. Although some senior Republicans have now pushed back on Trumpism, tens of millions of True Believers will continue to follow him. There could still be worse to come.
Of course you have to think about it... unless someone on the internet tells you that you haven't. And conversely, people won't hear a bar of anything where one does not accept that a Deep State exists despite the evidence strewn across history to the contrary.

Support for draining the Swamp is a very very old thing, coz people have been fed up with it across centuries. Is Biden a 'Great Reset' fan?... if so, we might all be in for change that some would consider worse.

Quite a few have been told not to come back to work. From their occupations, including lawyers and a Republican politician, they're not exactly a "bunch of thugs".

They were behaving like thugs and the courts should treat them appropriately. The Republican politician has been charged.

There were reportedly also police and military among the rioters, taking an active part. The initial law enforcment resonse seemed very slow, but things are cranking up massively now.

The Justice Dept have stated that there is no evidence of Antifa involvement. (As if...)

One of the injured Capitol cops has died of his injuries which will ramp up the seriousness of events. When people were toppling statues of confederate generals a year or two back, Trump signed an executive order making damage to public property (however that was worded) punishable by a mandatory ten years jail. That could bite these turkeys on the arse.

While a nationwide review of the electoral process probably wouldn’t hurt, good luck getting all 50 individual states to agree to giving away the right to run their own.

And any federal oversight organisation they might create will just be dismissed as another organ of the ‘Deep State’, whatever that is.

There is no perfect system, demanding there be no margin for error in anything done by humans is unrealistic.

And frankly, however transparent any election might be made to be, I’m not convinced President Trump would accept any result that wasn’t a win for him.

Several sources report the Democrats are drafting articles of impeachment. It seems Trump may well create history, if not exactly how he intended: First president to be impeached twice.

    Sen. Kelly Loeffler GA
Loeffler rescinded her objection to the certification of electors after protestors interrupted debate, saying "the events that have transpired today have forced me to reconsider, and I cannot now in good conscience object to the certification of these electors."

Twitter have announced the permanent ban of a number of accounts which have consistently been promoting false information. General Flynn and Sidney Powell as well as some prominent followers of QAnon, but the most notable account to be banned is that of Donald J Trump.

The official White House account is still open but there's been nothing posted since the 7th.

    Raid on Capitol Hill

It's been interesting reading accounts from various news sources about the raid on the US Capitol building in Washington, DC.

But I can't help feeling that this was all a "staged event", in respect that certain actors from within the US political / business / military environments allowed Don just enough rope for him to not only politically "hang himself" (figuratively speaking) - but to justify further legislative change.

Knowing that Don could not resist initiating such an event, and that some of his followers would be only too willing to respond and participate. A little collateral damage to the Capitol building could be easily repaired. I mean, this whole episode was hardly at the level of say the Oklahoma bombing.

What did intrigue me was Biden's choice of the words "domestic terrorists" in his address that followed.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terror..._United_States

After 911, barely six weeks later, the 300+ page Patriot Act (which involved the granting of new administrative legal powers in respect of actions by foreign actors) came into being. Amazing not only that it was written in such a short time frame, but that it also successfully navigated all the Houses and came into law within that period as well.

Some have even said that the Patriot Act had already been written, and was just awaiting the right trigger (event) to justify its coming into being. An argument that I'm not really interested in debating.

But I do now wait with interest to see if a corresponding "Domestic Terrorist" Act (Patriot Act 2 ?) now comes into being, and within a similarly short time-frame.

Why ? Because after doing several quick Google searches (in response to Biden's words), the words "domestic terrorist" turned up several recent articles seemingly calling out the "apparent need" for such a Bill.

Not only stated by Biden himself (as recently as November 2020):

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-a...sm-11605279834

But also by a range of various online publications e.g. Washington Post, Vox, Mother Jones, just to name a few that I noted.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...m-capitol-mob/
    https://www.vox.com/policy-and-polit...ism-definition
    https://www.motherjones.com/politics...-he-can-do-it/

Even the CFR got involved: https://www.cfr.org/in-brief/domesti...-and-democracy

I would have thought that the challenges of (i) Covid infection (ii) Vaccine production and national distribution (iii) economic recovery (iv) housing and employment situation would have been more than sufficient to keep the new Democrat administration busy for the next 12 months at least.

But I will watch and wait the possible appearance of a "Domestic Terrorism" Bill.

As for the Democrats choosing to (i) pursue impeachment (again) (ii) invoke the 25th Amendment (since they now control the Senate) - all while Don has only two weeks left to serve, well, I'm still laughing at the suggestions.

That is funny but ironic too that now in the west we have Nth Korean style censorship... but what’s worse is it’s a private entity...
Funny how the left despises this the free market and capitalism but it embraces a mega giant platform like twitter to do its dirty work...
Oh well I guess the ends justified the means if the end goal is a Chinese style social media rating to determine your access to society...
