It's been interesting reading accounts from various news sources about the raid on the US Capitol building in Washington, DC.
But I can't help feeling that this was all a "staged event", in respect that certain actors from within the US political / business / military environments allowed Don just enough rope for him to not only politically "hang himself" (figuratively speaking) - but to justify further legislative change.
Knowing that Don could not resist initiating such an event, and that some of his followers would be only too willing to respond and participate. A little collateral damage to the Capitol building could be easily repaired. I mean, this whole episode was hardly at the level of say the Oklahoma bombing.
What did intrigue me was Biden's choice of the words "domestic terrorists" in his address that followed.

After 911, barely six weeks later, the 300+ page Patriot Act (which involved the granting of new administrative legal powers in respect of actions by
foreign actors) came into being. Amazing not only that it was written in such a short time frame, but that it also successfully navigated all the Houses and came into law within that period as well.
Some have even said that the Patriot Act had already been written, and was just awaiting the right trigger (event) to justify its coming into being. An argument that I'm not really interested in debating.
But I do now wait with interest to see if a corresponding "Domestic Terrorist" Act (Patriot Act 2 ?) now comes into being, and within a similarly short time-frame.
Why ? Because after doing several quick Google searches (in response to Biden's words), the words "domestic terrorist" turned up several recent articles seemingly calling out the "apparent need" for such a Bill.
Not only stated by Biden himself (as recently as November 2020):

But also by a range of various online publications e.g. Washington Post, Vox, Mother Jones, just to name a few that I noted.

Even the CFR got involved:

I would have thought that the challenges of (i) Covid infection (ii) Vaccine production and national distribution (iii) economic recovery (iv) housing and employment situation would have been more than sufficient to keep the new Democrat administration busy for the next 12 months at least.
But I will watch and wait the possible appearance of a "Domestic Terrorism" Bill.
As for the Democrats choosing to (i) pursue impeachment (again) (ii) invoke the 25th Amendment (since they now control the Senate) - all while Don has only two weeks left to serve, well, I'm still laughing at the suggestions.
