Interesting. The Washington Post are reporting that some of the material that was targeted in the search of Mar a Lago related to nuclear matters. That's behind a paywall but there will be lots of coverage elsewhere. What makes it so interesting is that it opens up options for the Justice Dept. It's not just unlawful possession of documents. It could be a range of charges up to espionage depending on the nature of the material.

Presidents can declassify secret documents, but even presidents cannot declassify anything related to nuclear power or weapons.

This doesn't come entirely out of the blue. There were those who considered Jared Kushner was providing nuclear information to his buddy MBS in Saudi Arabia.

The Attorney General has applied to the court to release the details of the search warrant. Trump says he will not oppose the release of information. Then again he did say he'd release his tax returns...

By now everybody should be aware of Trump's predeliction for projection. His accusation that Obama removed nuclear documents can be seen as an admission that some of his documents illegally in his possession are nuclear related. Possibly "lots" of them.

That's a very umm coloured piece. He is very misleading and some of what he said is just not true. Trump had receieved multiple subpoenas and ignored them all. Nobody else would have even received one, there would have just been a knock at the door. Reality Winner provided one document confrming Russian interference in the 2016 US election and she got five years jail.

Probably the most level breakdown, he also does a half hour look at the Search Warrant - note, nothing in the Search Warrant mentions Nuclear.

Also his initial actions of returning boxes of documents to the National Archives does somewhat fly in the face of 'Trump didn't comply'

I’m very happy that you are of enough rational though to come to that realisation so early in the latest saga of what “might” happen to Trump.

An interestingly comment elsewhere was the opinion that the search warrant was merely to try and provoke the Maga crowd into a mainly peaceful protest. Even if there was only half the amount of mainly peaceful protests as the BLM events it would be enough for Biden administration to implement martial law and go full banana republic.

CNN has reported that this was part of an effort to gather information about who had access to areas at the club where government documents were stored. Federal Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart approves the unsealing of the Mar-a-Lago search warrant and its property receipt, at the Justice Department's request and after Trump's lawyers agree to the release. The warrant reveals the Justice Department is looking into possible violations of the Espionage Act, obstruction of justice and criminal handling of government records, as part of its investigation.

On Friday evening 12th August , Trump’s camp sent a statement to Fox News elaborating on that defense.
“As we can all relate to, everyone ends up having to bring home their work from time to time. American presidents are no different,” the statement read.

It continued: “President Trump, in order to prepare for work the next day, often took documents, including classified documents, to the residence.
