As for the Shapiro point, you miss the intent of the comment.
Shapiro's full quote is something like this:
"Trump is a wrecking ball, anyone who goes against him in a primary is going to get destroyed like they did in 2016 and loose any Political capital they had. So if Trump decides to run and I think he will, it would be better for the likes of Ron to not oppose him, but to let him run in 2024"
If Ron decides to run against Trump, it's likely Trump will go full-on attack mode against DeSantis, something that IMO would harm both of their prospects, whereas the tactical decision is to let Trump run in 2024 without opposition (because Biden has been doing an excellent job for Trump's re-election campaign...) and then have DeSantis run in 2028.
Trump making an off-the-cuff jibe at DeSantis is probably part warning shot across the bow and part Trump being Trump.

But here's the kicker sometimes as a Parent, you have to do what is best for a Child in the Longterm, which might mean a dressing down in the short term.
And Florida's educational scored that came out in October vs other states that had more restrictive policies shows that DeSantis's ethic of 'We need to teach the kids to Read and Write, not teach them to be scared' was the best long-term outcome.

Quick fun aside - I have a friend, who is pretty much a modern-day Nomad. Travels the world, going to Hippy festivals etc. He recently came back from Burning Man and some other events in the states, bearing in mind he's most definitely on the Left, Very Left - here is what he had to say:

No doubt, however I think it would better for Trump to get in:
He's only got a single Term, can't be re-elected - that places him in the perfect position to basically force through a lot of unpopular (but some might argue necessary) legislation. I can't remember which President it was, one of the ones from the 1800s I think that said they only needed a single term in office to do all that they needed to do - something like that.
It would also be glorious for the Meme value, and well... I love a good meme.
