Lived there for over 50 years. Shithole. Very glad to be out.

The Auckland region is a great place for young people who like to get out and live life. You had your 50 years in Auckland and then decided to move away from the bustling city for a slow paced lifestyle. I can completely understand that. Im happy to put up my hand and admit my original comments didn't take age into consideration. Sorry team[/QUOTE]

    Good try.

We got out because millennials were happy to pay eye watering prices for tiny properties and we made stupid money.

Now live in a place earning much higher pay and 5 mins away from great riding.

    Auckland is a shithole.

Make no mistake, this is a huge boost for Trumps chances at winning, especially if Joe stays, and it looks like he loves his job more than his country at present and is digging in.
Reagan got a 10% bump in popularity for actually getting shot. The difference was Reagan wasn't a pussy like trump, he didn't actually know he had be shot until that were at the hospital.
The bullet that hit Reagan narrowly missed his heart, but struck his rib, leading to a punctured lung. Reagan was rushed to the hospital, and emergency surgery saved his life Reagan walked into the hospital .Reagan was in great pain from the bullet that struck his rib and believed that his rib had cracked when Parr pushed him into the limousine. When the agent checked him for gunshot wounds, Reagan coughed up bright, frothy blood. Although the president believed that he had cut his lip, Parr assessed that the cracked rib had punctured Reagan's lung and ordered the motorcade to divert to nearby George Washington University Hospital, which the Secret Service periodically inspected for use.The limousine arrived there less than four minutes after leaving the hotel, while other agents took Hinckley to a D.C. jail, and Nancy Reagan ("Rainbow") left the White House for the hospital.
Although Parr had requested a stretcher, none were ready at the hospital, which did not normally station a stretcher at the emergency department's entrance. Reagan exited the limousine and insisted on walking. He acted casually and smiled at onlookers as he entered the hospital. While he entered the hospital unassisted, once inside, Reagan complained of difficulty breathing, his knees buckled and he fell to one knee. He cracked jokes that endeared him to the public: “Honey, I forgot to duck,” he told first lady Nancy Reagan. In his memoir An American Life, he recounted how he had told one of his doctors that he hoped they were a Republican

Reagan had acted it out on film so many times he knew the script. Old acting cues cut in.
He could probably have done it in his sleep - and in his condition at the time most of it was IMO.

Trump simply registered he was alive and surrounded by the secret service - so made the most of the moment.

I hadn't considered turnout, I assumed his base was pretty motivated already.

I thought young people had deserted the media in favour of getting all their information from Tik Tok etc.

I guess shooting at a politician is an improvement then (to be clear, no, no it isn't).

When I was stalled in traffic on the Auckland motorway, totally immobile, the phrase "bustling city" didn't come to mind.

Hate, outrage, and fear, is all the Republicans have. The poor areas in rural America, and some are desperately poor, keep voting for the politicians who brought them to this state and who have done nothing to relieve the situation. They do so solely on the fear and outrage that they have been sold by their elected representatives.

They talk about democracy but that is in short supply. The House is basically democratic if heavily gerrymandered. The Electoral College is not particularly democratic and the Senate is not at all democratic.

I always have admired the American founding fathers and their clear vision of what they wanted to achieve. Absolute separation between Church and State, very clear separation of powers and powerful checks and balances.

What has happened of course is political parties and the extraordinary cost of getting elected which means that the backers require a quid pro quo. When I rule you all (and I will) both will be outlawed.

“John Steinbeck once said that socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.” This would apply mostly to the republican/maga supporters
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Or it was Antifa? A politician who believes this is calling for Antifa to be declared a terrorist organisation. I thought Trump had already organised that when he was prez but those Antifa are hard to find. Too hard. The FBI couldn't find any.

Reportedly the shooter was a registered Republican and his house had Trump signs in the yard. If he was Antifa that's a good disguise.

The conspiracies will keep coming no doubt. The only thing odd to me so far is that Trump said the bullet whizzed past his ear. A .223 bullet fired from 150 yards away does not make a whizzing sound. Not even close.

Last night TV1 reported from the US that the judge in the documents case had declared the special prosecutor illegal and dismissed the charges. That's true as far as it goes. Her order ran to 93 pages. Lawyers in the US are speaking of her order in the most derisory terms. Jack Smith had been waiting for justification to have Judge Cannon removed from the case, he should now now have what he needs.

While I agree she's gone against all prededent and should in an ideal world be tossed off the bench, this is Trumpworld.

She's more likely to be filling the next vacancy on the Supreme Court.

Sad but true. Giving Trump access to US military or nuclear secrets means they are on the market available to the highest bidder. And there is a very good chance that could come to pass.
