I watched a bit of the head of the secret service being char grilled by the House committee today. What was really obvious was the grandstanding by the people asking the questions. They were using her as a prop in their own agendas. It was performative in the extreme. Still, it does appear as if her organisation screwed up and that's why she gets the big bucks - to sit in the hot seat and move uncomfortably from arse cheek to arse cheek.
Having watched lots of clips of Congressional hearings I can confirm that's par for the course. It's about giving the politicians a sound bite for Fox or whoever.
The Secret Service like to promote themselves as some sort of elite but they have an ongoing history of scandals. I did note that it seems they have somewhat recently had to include women in the details and when the detail surrounded Trump his head and shoulders were still exposed because the women lacked the height to conceal him. Ooops! Also one of the women was shown struggling to holster her pistol. Hardly confidence inspiring. In the latest video of Trump on the move there is just the one female and she is trailing along behind - well out of the way.
Why the SS snipers didn't engage the shooter in the two minutes that passed after they were first warned remains a mystery. That could have / should have been made public. Having watched the head of the SS in Congress today though I won't hold my breath.
