Back in 2017 or whenever it was, Trump was in Paris for their Bastille Day celebration. He was so impressed by the big parade that he went home and told the generals he wanted a big parade. He was advised that it would cost over a hundred million dollars and given a variety of other reasons including that DC is built on a swamp and tanks travelling down Pennsylvania Avenue was not an option.

Trump has now surrounded himself with more compliant minions and he has apparently announced a big military parade to be held on his birthday. Kim Jong Trump? The cost, in excess of a hundred million dollars, is not considered waste, fraud, or abuse, apparently but I don't see how Pennsylvania Avenue can suddenly withstand the weight of tanks.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown on those numbers. If you google Independence Day costs you’ll see it’s typically cheaper by a factor of ten at least and that’s with complaints about spending last time.
American citizens spend some 9.4 Billion celebrating July 4, an average of $28 each so I do r think people will be concerned at celebrating Americas success and national pride.
Apparently a lot of military costs come out of their budgeted training hours for flying or logistics in transporting tanks etc.
At least they’ll be getting a spectacular display. Jacinda’s lot spent $337,000 on sausage rolls and marques to open transmission gully so we really can’t be criticising any other nation…

Apparently big players get around the whole insider trading thing quite easy. If information is publicly available then it can’t be considered insider trading. Apparently the big boys get around this by having someone publish the relevant information in any available obscure financial news magazine or blog before they do their trade.
I think truth social definately qualifies as an obscure publication lol

Oh well it will be worth a couple days of copium news cycles about trump maybe getting arrested again…

It was a YouTube interview. From memory the Federal cost was ninety million approx with another twenty or so from the DC government for policing, security, and maybe a million portaloos.

Yes we call it gst but essentially it’s a 15% sales tax whether it’s on imported goods or not. Thanks Adern.

Europes doubling down, bad idea I think, there’s a reason that 50% buffer was left open to adjust.

International markets have barely reacted, in fact there happy he’s erased the uncertainty around the whole idea. So a small blip in prices which people will absorb just like when ciggy tax or alcohol level goes up, life will go on.

I did go on customs website to try see our tariffs but it’s an unnavigable rabbit warren of sub menus on every product description. There’s more category’s than a pride march.

Pretty simple if you don’t want tariffs then don’t charge them on others.

Well this aged badly, seems you managed to get everything wrong. As you say though tariffs are complicated which is why Trump's calculations have nothing to do with tariffs at all. Far too complicated for his cretins.

WTF did Ardern have to do with GST?

I was actually looking for another of your posts where I seem to recall you thought that some people would be making a killing on the markets due to the volatility introduced by Trump's erratic behaviour.. I thought so too. I did wonder about insider trading though. There is an opinion that US politicians of all stripes play that game if possible. This time the focus is on Marjorie Taylor Green who has been making quite a large number of particularly advantageous trades the timing of which is suspicious. It'll be interesting to watch developments if the spotlight shines on her.

I'm sure you will all recall the plight of the immigrant with protected status and an America wife who was shipped off to El Salvador. A judge ruled that he be returned by midnight the following Monday. The Trump Justice Department refused. That ruling was appealed to the Supreme Court who put it on hold for a week or so. The Justices have now decided, they have ruled 9 - 0 that he is to be returned to the USA.

This may still end badly though. I don't think Trump wants him running around telling the world about what is happening in El Salvador.

What a fucking moron r666 is. Jesus lots of American states have tax. THATS NOT A TARRIFF if it's applied to both domestic and international.

And blaming it on ardern. Jesus how ignorant of history are you? Did you not notice GST for the previous 40 years? I had to Google it as it was only in my children's memory.
. It was Roger Douglas in 1986.
You are an incel if you want to lay blame at a 'powerful woman' because you feel inadequate. I mean 40 years wrong. It can only be for your introverted psychosis trying to transfer guilt. Jesus let's blame Kate Shepherd.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.

I thought he was referring to the GST being applied to imported goods under the old threshold that once existed (around $400). That was Labour's move from memory.

The limit seems to be $1000 now. A strange thing to complain about.

Some overseas merchants do charge GST on goods under $1000 still, I've seen that happen.

True. The least three purchases I made from Chinese companies all arrived GST free though.

WTF? DOGE went into the National Labour Relations Board offices and seemingly exported a large amount of data. They then set up user accounts and within minutes there was an attempt by a Russian IP address to access these new accounts. The log in details the would-be intruder were using were correct but the attempt was stalled by the fact the system was set to deny access to IP addresses outside the US.
