This was an interesting if mildly perplexing news item. Staff from the office of the Director of National Intelligence accessed voting machines on Puerto Rico because of concerns about the machines having been hacked by Venezuela. Why Venezuela would be interested in these voting machines was not explained.

People in Puerto Rico do not get to cast votes in elections for Congress, the Senate, or the President. They can basically only vote for local politicians to hold positions on the island. They are American citizens though and have full voting rights if they move permanently to the mainland.

Trump is waging a trade war on Canada but it is becoming obvious that he has only a very limited understanding of the relationship between the two countries. There's a lot going on and it can be a bit complicated but your search engine is your friend.

The latest drama concerns a new bridge due to open soon. The billionaire owner of a 100 year old bridge nearby got in Howard Nutlicks ear about the business he was soon to lose. Nutlick informed Trump that a donor was unhappy and at 3.00 AM Trump posted on Truth Social.

    https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldT...43090074364624

The White House initiated a Customs go slow on the existing bridge. The car assembly plants in the US and elsewhere operate on a just in time component supply system. Components are stuck on the Canadian side of the border. US auto makers' production lines will be grinding to a halt.

In response to Trumps Truth Social post the Canadian PM made a brief statement to the effect that Canada was reviewing the status of its energy corridors in the Great Lakes region. Propane and jet fuel flow south over the border - for the time being. Canada also supplies electricity to US cities in the north and that brief statement contains an implicit threat to turn out the lights.

    I guess it's Trump's move.

And naming everything after himrself? Or building a faux Arc de Triomphe, even though he is lacking triumphs?

The genuine AdT in Paris is inscribed with Napoleon's battles. There are a great many battles named but I couldn't find Waterloo.

You know, there's really a bit of a naz-ty vibe to the whole thing. He could always borrow that fake Arc de Triomphe in Las Vegas. But no doubt he'll find a suitably ex-speer-ienced architect.
