For the first time I sat down and watched an entire trump state of the nation speech in front of congress. I viewed it through the fox coverage to get the full maga effect.
I did this as I wanted to better understand his seemingly magical powers of persuasion over his cult followers. And I have to say the whole production was very slick, from start to finish. The whole gig was designed as one big dopamine hit for every trump fan, hitting on an impressive range of emotional trigger points. In short a master class of deception, misdirection and manipulation all wrapped up in a sugar hit of patriotism.

The dream he offered was a vision of America that even I could go for and his pathway to this utopia was all going to be paid for by "beautiful tariffs". The lies came thick and fast, each building on the last. They were so blatant and obvious that on the occasion the cameras panned onto the handful of supreme court justices faces in attendance you could visually see them wincing, and that was the right leaning ones!

I burst out laughing at the look of sheer rage and quivering chin on pelosi as trump trolled her with extreme lies about biden, dems etc. She is totally unaware that this is exactly what the magas want to see. About halfway through the speech, he started rolling out the props, also known as people. A kid that had beaten cancer and wanted to become a policeman, the family of a woman murdered by a illegal immigrant, a released prisoner from russia. And each person was blessed by saint trump. It is kinda hard to describe properly, but it was as if trump was the only person who could have made them "whole" again. I could only admire the manipulation of all the different emotional strings that were being pulled. The whole production was a cross between a television evangelist crossed with a ww2 3rd reich rally crossed with a old western snake oil salesman speech.

I can honestly see why magas do not care that he lies about near everything, that he is a criminal, that he will unlikely actually realize the story he masterfully weaves. They just want that dopamine hit - and in that area he with out a doubt does deliver.

As an aside, the very NEXT DAY he dropped a bunch of his tariff plans, how will you finance that bold American dream now donald? He does not need to worry about that, because his cult followers simply won't care. they are all basically drug addicts only thinking as far as that next trump hit, that next dem troll. Long term goals and achievements simply do not enter the equation for the majority of them.

I would suggest some of his donors will be happy, US owned coal and oil extraction companies will benefit from potentially sourcing more internally.

I keep hearing that their refineries aren’t set up for the sort of oil they produce domestically, it’s set up for the heavier oil they already get (cheaply) from Canada or alternatively somewhere like Venezuela. Apparently not something they can change up easily.

The U.S. exports more petroleum than it imports.
