Brake Caliper shims - off topic

I’m doing a favour for a bloke with a cheap go kart and a heartbroken kid who can’t drive it because the disc brake doesn’t grab.

It’s a single piston caliper that needs shimming.

Any thoughts on what to use for shim? I’ll have to cut one out of something.

I’ve got brass shim stock but I think it’s too soft. Do we use stainless or alloy, or cut the side out of beer can or what.

Figure the pit bike crew would know.
    Cheers

if the brass is cut to size of the pad then you'll need a ten ton press to squash it down more simply

Well I'm a mechanic, but for the life of me, I can't understand what it is that you're trying to achieve.
