Do you think the Haka has been overdone?

Just what everyone thinks about the Haka and the amount of use it has had in the Commonwealth Games?

Personally I think it has been, fine use it when we get a Gold but not for every medal. And I thought it was rude and ignorant when they did it over the Bag pipes for the Scottish guy when the Scot had got the Gold.
Those who dont learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.

I was at a graduation the other day....boring hohum.
Peoples family members kept doing them as they got on stage, causing big delays for the following students. A real pain in the ass.
Only problem is, you'll be classed as a racist if you disagree with its use.....such is the current state of our society.
Im sure it wouldn't meet with much approval if the english born students families got up and did the whole Morris dancing thing, or the Scots did a long Bagpipe solo that everyone had to sit thru time and again.

Bah. Definitely better than hearing Waltzing Mathilda every 5 minutes. Besides, what would you have them do instead, sing the national anthem all the time??

It's ridiculous how we have to endure some of this cultural stuff, especially at school. Take your USA hoodies off, get rid of your ghetto attitude and start wearing your grass skirts 24/7 then I might start taking your culture seriously

And if any disagrees with me, you're racist!

    Defenitely overdone.

Last year I sadly had to attend a friends funeral & soon afterwards his tangi.
Attenting the Marae in Northland was an experience I'll never forget. I had known my friend for about 18 years before he was killed. A manslaughter conviction has been handed down to his killer. It blew me away to see my friends birthplace and his roots etc. Watching those skinny white-arsed swimmers at the games does seem to reduce the "magic" of the Haka, for me anyways. There should be a licencing requirement for pakeha to do it, hell there is for everything else!!!! Norm Hewitt can be appointed Haka Licencing Commisioner or something???

Doesnt worry me at the games at the moment. They could do it everytime we came 4th place for all I care. Plenty of other channels...

Any Haka if done properly and in context is in good taste. With the multiculturalising of our country more and more non-maori are finding an affinity with the "Ka Mate" haka as a common link to their home. Especially when away from home. The question becomes are you proud to be a NZer? They certainly are.

But to use a haka, which is a challenge, to celebrate every imagined victory (such as 3rd) is to diminsh it's mana as a cultural icon. There'd be few NZers who'd argue that the All Blacks (regardless of sporting support) don't value the haka and aquit themselves as best they're able when performing it.

I'm not Maori nor do I have any Maori 'blood' in me (No mountain, river, or Iwi either) But I am a proud Kiwi. And I value the cultural heritage that we are building as a relatively young country. The haka is part of that cultural heritage and needs to be preserved as iconic and not sold off every street corner like so many plastic tiki before.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

    < The haka.

    WTF.

    ARE YOU CRAZY

    OF COURSE ITS OVERUSED.

    ITS CRAZY.

I went to a school that, whenever some maori person got an award, the bloody kapa haka got up and had a spaz.

    WTF? Sit down. And Clap.

And why do maori get to call us 'Pakeha'? I don't like it. Black americans didn't like being called 'niggers' either
