Read the thread. Biden responded immediately and he didn't even ask for a favour.

This is all down to the fuckwits that Texans elect. Any idiot as long as he's Republican. Those at the top are imbeciles.
One of their senators, Cruz, just shot through for a tropical holiday. Caught, he's now blaming his children. The Lt Gov said the elderly should scrifice themselves to Covid for the economy. Either he or the Governor, another idiot, actually said there's worse things than dying. WTF?

On the basis that it's generally accepted we get the politicians we deserve, too many Texans are seriously stupid.

Some KBers aren't looking too flash currently either. Chiming in on a thread they obviously haven't read and having read nothing else sensible either.

Millions have no water and no power and it's below freezing. Tough on the homeless. Senator Ted Cruze of Texas is a good man in a tight spot, he has taken off with his family to a resort in Cancun, Mexico. Just across the water from Cuba. Should be a lot nicer there.

    Lubbock, Texas 13°F. (minus 11c)
    Cancun, Mexico 85°F. (30 deg c )

A guy I know in San Antonia in his 80's says he gets power for 20 minutes then a 20 minute power outage so as to spread what electricity there is.

Says it has been the biggest and coldest snowfall 'in years'.

Detroit was also hit fairly hard but but the guy I know there pointed out their system is set up to cope with such incidents,

Good news, bad news item. Some people in Texas have had their power restored. The price of power has jumped from $50 per MW to $9,000 per MW.

As per the communist plan/doctrine, if they don't manage to freeze you to death they will smash you financially into poverty/homeless/hunger....

Good thing we haven't mainstreamed electric transport yet...

Dark Winter hasn't even started yet...

That's why I'm on a fixed rate plan......

It's pertinent to note at this time that some years ago previously illegal trading of food commodities on stock market was made legal. So now the casino financial markets can do with grain prices exactly what's happened here with the angry pixies distribution albeit through a different mechanism.....

Dark Winter coming to a theatre..., no, failing western democracy near you soon......

If democracy is failing then we should embrace the control of state surely? Thanks I hadn't thought that.

The shit show that runs Texas is the opposite of communist. They are capitalist. Corrupt capitalist, but capitalist. The Governor and Lt Gov are fucking imbeciles, just a couple of weeks ago they were talking about withdrawing Texas from the United States. The senior senator from Texas is missing in action, nobody knows where he is. The junior senator from Texas flew to a Mexican resort with his family and was shamed into returning to Texas immediately. Not that he's any use.

Meanwhile their fellow citizens freeze, or go broke as a result of water damage and ludicrous power prices.

    Texas Freeze

A few other little snippets picked up in passing:

Ted Cruz's wife (Heidi Cruz), still in Cancun, is a managing director at Goldman Sachs, which maintains a controlling interest in several Texas utility companies, including Energy Future Holdings.

Despite having several small electricity inter-changes, the deregulated Texas power grid is not permitted to buy power from out of state.

El Paso was spared rolling blackouts largely because its grid lies outside of the ERCOT system.

The cold spell being experienced by North America is apparently a result of a wavy polar vortex:

Though I half suspect that evil Mr Putin has been playing with the weather on his side of the Arctic ... and exporting all their cold air up over the Pole ... I'm surprised that the American media haven't picked up on that yet .... 8-)

I did read a learned explanation of what has been happening but it was very technical and I only retained a simplified version. That's an easier to understand explanation, the pictures help.
