No surprises there. Confiscation and redistribution of assetts... sounds like a political system called........
Just like power generation under the gNats. The difference is that the power companies were flogged off to anyone whereas water will be a Govt entity - until the gNats sell it off anyway under the slogan "Water will be better and cheaper".

But market forces. . The competition will regulate. . .

    The Fuck.

At heart I'm a capitalist but I'm smart enough (it's alright, you don't need to be very smart to meet this bar) to see that shareholders want a profit so who gets screwed? Joe and Josephine Public.

Some things need govt control. Schools, health, police. You'd be mad to argue otherwise, unless you want to create a very unfair system that stops the poor getting ahead enough to take advantage of - Work hard get reward by keeping them too poor to do much else.

Could there be things happening overseas that are causing that rise in price?

Like artificial regulations, a push towards a green new deal, stopping exploration and infrastructure projects....

Oh yeah. Listening to day how Contact / Meridian sold power below cost to Rio Tinto so you and me could subsidise them to the tune of half a billion per year. (aka the free market) or more accurately, "the Max (Bradford) tax". Wonder why no media interview him for his his take on how well the reforms have done
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

not only that when they backed out of the market rates finally for Rio Tinto it destroyed the value of the power companies that NATco was flogging off.

I'd go beyond your choice of three. I'd say basic infrastructure should be strictly regulated and/or Government owned. Ports, roads, rail, power generation and transmission, communications infrastructure. I'd rephrase Police as Emergency services so we don't have to fund Ambulances with donations and Fire Engines via Insurance levies that provide another source of double taxed income for the Government to spend on some pointless diversity glass ceiling ate my bum study. Public transport should be free. Countless studies have shown that the economic outcomes of reliable, free public transport outweigh any potential profits generated in a public/private model or a flat private model. It's not for nothing that most military's priority targets when some capitalist bastard spreads democracy by unloading their stockpile of EoL ordnance on someone who can't fight back so the military industrial complex can make some more money are the things I listed.

Exactly, my 3 were examples. Power I was pissed off at the time as it was obvious what would happen.

Ah yes I remember it well, we owned it all basically debt free. It would be more efficient and cheaper if privately owned they said. Whoever bought it borrowed the money and payed interest, so that put the price up. Then there's the shareholders with their hands out. Then there was squandering of hydro so that they wouldn't have to use the more expensive coal or oil fired power generation. Suddenly the lakes were low. Managing it as a national resource was in the past. Their contract was to supply uninterupted power unless there was a one in twenty event. So there was a "twenty year drought" every other year.

Yes indeed. But also paramount is good leadership free of political interference. If only cops of today were allowed to be likevthey were in 80’s free of political correctness.

So, free to fettle thier own prejudice? Blame the rape victims, cover up internal brutality, and incarcerate as many brown people as possible? You really are showing your true colours.

There's a difference between "can remain constant" and "is rising". If opec has raised their price then we will see an even higher rise at our fuel pumps.

Anybody using Mike Graham as an authority instantly loses all credibility. Here he is a few days ago on talkback with his latest embarrassment, except that he's too thick to be embarrassed.
He believes you can grow concrete.
