Journalism in NZ is a minimum wage job and you’ll write about what the editor directs you to do after he’s had his orders.
For the freelancers not much happens in NZ of high value and the cost of travel restricts only the two majors to quickly getting on scene. Even then some fool will give their cellphone footage of a once in a lifetime event away for free.
Your right the standard is low even the sacred conventions of proper grammar and punctuation anandoned in chase to be first.
But when the health dept Is providing material for free they will save this for a slow news day which is likely the practise leading to their demise.
Often you will read about a new invention or escalating foreign conflict on likes of dailymail or RT news etc then our media will report it a week later like it was just discovered today

Minimum wage is $41,600/yr
Therefore the statement 'Most Journalists are on Minimum Wage' is absolutely correct.

If the Average is 48K and the minimum is 41.5K, that means that there is a heavy skew towards the lower end.
Or to put it another way - a few really good journalists make big bucks, Most are on Minimum Wage - which is what R650 said.
Now, sure there are other positions in the field that can command a higher salary, but that isn't what we are talking about.
