Um. . . Have you had a look outside the window lately? A lot of the world is in worse economic conditions due to covid responses.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
That all of us here on KB are still alive to post is testament to the governments covid response. But if you dont like it you are always free to go to Australia or Fiji or Britain or USA or any of those other countries where governments are just SO much better

The scientists at Johns Hopkins didn't exactly cover themselves with glory with this doubtless exceedingly expensive study. In 2019 they ranked countries according to their ability to deal with an epidemic or pandemic. They ranked USA first and Britain second. New Zealand is ranked 35th.
Not beng a scientist I knew nothing of any of this at the time. When it became apparent there was a possible pandemic, unlike the scientists, I thought the USA was badly positioned to deal with it. Low wage workers have no sick leave, they just can't afford to take time off. They will drag themselves in to work if they can. This includes virtually all food service workers. Many people have no insurance so they can't afford to see a doctor, early diagnosis is not possibile. And that was before it was confirmed that the US had a mental case as president.

Exactly what you have written is the problem with America.
If you have backing and money the Work hard gets you somewhere. But if you start poor, work hard just gets you tired and screwed.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
Some anyway.
I've just been reading a US gun related website that I've been a member of for years. The majority there still won't wear a mask, get vaccinated, or act in any way to protect themselves or their family. They are convinced the COVID threat is exaggerated, it's just like the flu, all the precautions are just an evil government plan to exert social control. The 600,000 plus US dead don't seem to enter the equation. Most think Trump won the election, and that his Jan 6th coup attempt was peaceful.
Murdoch has a lot to answer for.

We don’t have to give iwi first right of refusal on the Auckland land the government intends for private housing development
No decisions have yet been made about future housing developments on specific pieces of land
Nick Smith Smith was helpfully providing journalists with a “conceptual” view of the amount of vacant land in Auckland, not necessarily places where houses might be built.
Between 3000 and 4000 refugees were welcomed into New Zealand every year once the family reunification scheme was taken into account.
New Zealand is sixth in the world when it comes to accepting in UNHCR refugees.
Australia takes in 20,000 refugees a year and has been doing so for a long time.(2)

Treasury was consulted about the details of the Saudi sheep farm deal
the Saudi sheep farm deal was for the purchase of services, intellectual property, and a network of contacts
When asked by Radio New Zealand about what exact services, intellectual property, and contacts New Zealand gained from the deal I answered the questions absolutely but Susie Fergusson didn’t want to hear that the whole issue was Labour’s fault
The problem which led up to the Saudi sheep farm deal was caused by Labour.
The Saudi sheep farm deal was never about compensation even though I said earlier it was because Labour left the government liable for a claim for compensation
Labour misled the Saudi investors about the live sheep trade

New Zealand doesn’t need a policy on dealing with climate change refugees because that’s not an issue we are going to need to deal with in the next year or two

Labour prefers to protect the interests of rapists and child molesters rather than those of ordinary New Zealanders
New Zealand citizens detained on Christmas Island are there voluntarily

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/pol...-about-council
I discovered during a conversation with an old council tenant mate of mine tonight why councils all over the country are increasing rent.
Apparently the national government were subsidizing council housing in an effort to keep rents manageable for their tenant's.
Labour has very quietly chucked that out & made the councils look like the villans for having to increase rents as a result.
It gets worse, govt have now funded a Maori housing govt department into buying the housing off council so it shall forever henceforth become Maori housing.
Clearly subsidizing council tenant's wasn't helping labour's socialist brand, yet toothy was crowing about what she was doing for social housing only last week after lining up to compete with first home buyers to purchase lower braket housing to house the people they have shat on.
Waits for fanboi to justify, even though I never check back.
What's telling with all your posts bob, is if you could refute what was said, you would not need to engage in personal attacks.
I get it you don't like Labour being in power, but if you are going to criticise them for stuff, it should be able to stand up to basic levels of scrutiny or else it's just hypocritical comments with no obvious merit.
Sounds like a load of shit to me, I would say what was published is closer to the truth
"Marlborough District Council last week suggested it might need to increase its senior housing rent by about 35 per cent, to stay in line with its own policy of charging 80 per cent of the current market rate."
