You guys seem not to have noticed that the OP's name is Alana. She might not want to be a bloke.

Yes, my thoughts. I do wonder how long HD can last given that they have lost their way.

Well, quite. They did have some innovative ideas and were market driven leaders. I think they got a bit lazy getting the army contracts of 2nd world war and it's been distinctly downhill since then.

I want a road legal XR750. Under 200kg wet, around 80-100hp, sticky tyres. No frills.

I would have to build it. and I dont have time or inclination.

HD's been lost for last 50 years now. They'll manage to find enough support somehow to survive.

I wonder how hard it would be to put two front heads on a sportster, to make an XR look-alike, while leaving it at 883 (getting it down to 750 would be difficult if your name isn't Alan Millyard).
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

An Evo 1340 put out just over 50hp at the rear wheel. 100hp from a 750 would be the 30k S&S kit and 750 would be well north of that too.
Light the fuse and stand well back.

Yeah. Real men ride slow noisy bikes and tell themselves how they are such badass bikers and everyone else is a homo. Whatever that is.

    Definately the Royal Enfield.

That would mean NOT having to purchase all the arse-less HD branded "chaps", g-string underwear, emboidered bags, boots and all the other nonsense. Also not having to get the obligatory Harley-Fergusson tatoo and become a portable marketing ambassador of their psyche.

RE. Get on and just ride.

Neither. Get a Royal Enfield 650 twin.

I've ridden one of the streets and it's an absolute piece of disastrous fucking garbage. At least the Enfield looks cool, albeit in a couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding kind of way.

    So what did you get?

My money is on the Harley, because 'Merica! Harley riders can be a little elitist, so a Street won't earn you much credit in the HD community, the RE won't earn you credit from them either, but at least you won't have to live up to others expectations and that's what rebellion is all about, right? A new RE would have a warranty and some piece of mind...

...but I prefer neither and would get an XSR700.
