Black Knight would be yer man for that answer. He lives on it.

Assuming it's the Old Russell road B.O.I.

I have not heard anything about road works and it's to early for the green skid demon to have grown so I would guess it's just the usual twisty, twisty.

    Hopefully BK will chime in.

It is in good nick as far as I know but has been about 4 weeks since I went all the way through. I am working at Oakura, about halfway thru, and the road is absolutely fine but during the week they have crews chopping some of the wilding pines down on helena bay hill so maybe stop/go for a minute.
fwiw, murrays rd is a bit road worky.
oakleigh paparoa rd is in good nick.
waipoua forest is in good nick
twin bridges is in good nick
