I love his aptitude for working out and explaining the failure mechanisms that lead to need for repair. And great attention to detail.

We have a local chap who goes and competes in that stuff. Did an awesome TIG repair on a cracked chinesium stainless thin wall exhaust pipe subject to high vibration and it has stood test of time.

Teachers don't get much respect and some don't deseve overmuch. A young woman of my acquaintance was doing her OE and while in England was working as a relieving teacher. Being young, female, and 'only the reliever,' nobody cared what she thought about anything much. In the staff room any comment from her on teaching matters was likely to be met with cold stares.

It's usual when a reliever starts for the Principal to stop by the class to check that they know what they are doing. On one occasion the Principal dropped by for a while then left and returned with another teacher and both remained until the end of the class. When the room was cleared the Principal asked if she would mind if they filmed her taking a class because they wanted to show all of the staff what she was doing.

That cheered her up immensely, but I thought it was an indication that what we were turning out of Teachers Training College at the time wasn't too bad.

I'm not a qualified teacher, I teach my skill set, but agree that the quality of teachers overall at my school is excellent. The knowledge, enthusiasm, honesty and care they bring every day is humbling. As is the work load.
I have no doubt that these great people are really motivating kids to better themselves, it's usually the family's that are the hand brake.

Makes me wish I had been educated in a similar environment rather than being suppressed by the threat of corporal punishment and teachers who seemed to hate kids.

Replying to my own post and I know, bad form, but - binge watched both seasons of this and loved it. Smileys People with a bit of humour, characters to hate, fairly convoluted plots, cutting insults, etc. There are two more seasons in production and possibly more as the are seven books in the series.
